They are Finnish - I listened to this because Moonsorrow posted it on their facebook feed because they know the guys or something. Their bandcamp has it on offer for free ( but please donate etc ) and it's also on Google Play Music etc.

It is a weird kind of atmospheric album that has some metal elements to it I guess, I can't really pin it down. It is beautiful but I've never gone back to it after listening to it twice, maybe I'll give it another try.

It's basically a concept album/band based around the "Dyatlov Pass Incident" which is pretty :tinfoil: :black101:
They're Russian.

Ah ok - I just assumed Finnish since it lists the band in Bandcamp as from "Finland" ( edit - maybe it's just that the label is Finnish ). I know the Dyatlov Pass is in Russia.

Totally unrelated but awesome:

Metallic hardcore/beatdown/moshcore/whatever the gently caress it's called is literally Obituary without the guitar solos and it rules.

Honestly most of the worst metalcore bands are the ones leaning toward metal, like all of the lovely At the Gates clones. Stuff like Converge, Ringworm and Gaza is way better.

As Sergeant D once put it metalcore/modern hardcore is just whatever metal bands were doing 10-20 years prior.

JFYI - you can pre-order the album ( CD, vinyl, shirts - some are limited edition like a cd box set, coloured vinyl's etc ) from Season of Mist right now - release January 21, 2016

http://shopusa.season-of-mist.com/predefined-search?id_list=74

I ordered basically everything ( limited edition full album blue/white vinyl, limited edition ep clear/black spatter vinyl, cd box set + basically the best shirt ever ) - total was only $65ish USD ( $96ish :canada: ). :black101:

http://shopusa.season-of-mist.com/abbath-abbath-t-shirt

Can't wait to wear that shirt with the wristband while listening to the album looking at the post-card.

I can see that. I wouldn't say Widowmaker is a better album. I just really really like Part 2 on it. I love the awkward slowish tempo that stars about 2:30 in. The sound and arrangement/riffs, so menacing, heavy, just everything. It's so terrible sounding in the good way and still rocks hard. I could go for more stuff like that, that's all. The ending rules.
