Being obtuse is fun, but that's not what I'm talking about. Maron's whole thing is about how he seemingly couldn't please Michaels and become part of this institution. But what was he expecting really? He was by all accounts a massive dick at the time who couldn't play well with others and who had never worked in that type of environment before. This isn't like it was snatched from the jaws of victory.

People like to fantasize about getting the one (chance/person) that got away, even if it doesn't really make sense rationally.

Jon Stewart will probably never do WTF because he knows Marc needs it more than him.

Lorne called him in for a meeting to see if he'd work out on SNL. Marc went to the meeting high and was his typical mid-90s weird, not-ready-for-prime-time self, blew the interview, Lorne's bad feeling about Marc panned out, Lorne decided not to pursue having Marc on the show.

Nobody's at fault here. Everybody's at fault here. Lorne probably has interviewed hundreds of improv and stand-up people, and the vast majority of them didn't work out. Marc's just fixated on that moment, because it would have massively changed his life for the better if he had gotten it, but it didn't happen and life went on.

Is the Radcliffe ep worth checking out? I've heard some crazy stories about how off the rails he was during Harry Potter filming, does he go into that much or is it a softer interview?

It's fairly soft (they mostly just reference some other interview he did where I guess he went into more depth) but it's fairly upbeat and I didn't turn it off so one thumb up and a half hearted shoulder shrug?

They go over it for a bit, but let me spoil it for you. "I was sad because these movies were ending. I was sad that I was viewed as a kid despite being an adult. I drank a lot for a while, then realized it was bad and stopped". Then Marc moves on, basically. It was an okay time waster, but I use podcasts to make work go by faster.

Yeah he in fact specifically said he would talk to Marc about it, but not on the podcast, because he didn't want to give people "that story" since a lot of people really want that to be his narrative. It was mediocre, I listened to it because I was out of other better podcasts for the work day.

Yeah Radcliffe was nice enough and I do respect him saying that he would talk to Maron privately instead of airing it out in public. He's self aware enough to know that he'll be in the news cycle for a week or two.

And that's why I was forced to surgically attach your hands to your face.
I don't think it would be awkward. Back when Ta-Nehisi Coates was blogging regularly, he had a very likable, very personal streak to his writing. He's good at talking about race issues to people who haven't really gone deep on it before. And Maron is good at connecting with people and trying to understand what it is that they're about. I bet it would be a really good episode.

The recent episode on Jim Ladd and Frazer Smith was really interesting, once it started going, and I really hope Mark brings one or both on for individual episodes, because they barely scratched the surface on interesting things to talk about. It was a little awkward at first, and Marc spends too much time answering dumb crowd questions, but hey, Marc was at least endearing and pleasant the entire time. Very good listen.

Is that the one with the "Red Blobster" story?

I love Big Jay, he's definitely one of the quickest, funniest guys around. I'd recommend his radio show on Sirius with Dan Soder, The Bonfire. Pretty sure all the episodes are on youtube if you search around.

The Neil Strauss episode was interesting. In general I'm not that interested in the non-comedian episodes, usually they have a much less interesting back story. This guy however had some very weird stories.

I quite liked the Crispen Glover interview. He's surprisingly normal and just seems to like exploring his art in certain ways.

It's easy to see why he's be perturbed by the implications of the BttF ending (It's a total Regan's America end to that movie), but I still can't believe they honestly thought they could just get away with putting a mask on another actor.

So, I listened to some of the Pete Correale episode that dropped today, and it was essentially a no-name comedian sucking Marc off vigorously and thoroughly for the 10-15 minutes of listening to it that I could stand. I'm glad Marc has someone to do that for him, ego boosts are great, but hearing Pete gush about Marc being one of his top 5 favorite comedians got a little old the third time he swung back through that point.

Does the Cindy Crawford interview get any better? It starts off with the most dull poo poo imaginable, teasing me with possible stories about her meeting other celebrities, but none of the stories have anything to them, just "I met this person once" and "I met this other celebrity at a party".

Edit: Oh, and since nobody else mentioned it at all as far as I can see, the Cintra Wilson episode was fuckin' AWESOME. She had a lot of interesting things to say and I could listen to her talk for way longer than one WTF episode.

Bummer. I feel the same way about the Patricia Arquette interview Marc did not too long ago, just the most boring thing ever because there's no controversy to discuss, Marc doesn't have a huge amount of interesting stuff to say or things to ask, and it's just a generally pleasant chat. Which is dull as hell to listen to.
