So i try to take it off just after the second crack, and then try and cool it into the 4. Yeah, that first one is reeeeeally dark. The second one looks a lot better.

I want a thing for frothing milk, is it better to get one of those frothing wands or the little steamer kettle thing? Looking to not spend a ton.

If you only want it to foam it up and not necessarily warm it up as well, I think the cheap frothing wand from ikea works just fine. I tend to pop milk in the microwave for a few seconds first though at least for better results.

If you have a french press laying around, it works great to microwave the milk in the glass container and then use the plunger to foam the milk. Worth a try before buying any cheap gadget, though it's obviously not as good as a steam wand.

There's a bunch of electric frothing pitchers on Amazon for $30-40 and if they work as well as the Nespresso one does then you'll get better foam from them then most people can make with a conventional steam wand, and all you have to do is push a button. I try to keep my kitchen mostly gadget-free but these things are well worth it.

It's not going to replicate well textured milk from a steam wand, but it's better than the wand style thing she had before it.

Originally I thought the wand looked better because it seems easier to clean, and I can just froth the milk in my mug. Is there a concensus on which one produces better results?

You'll find little consensus in a thread about the best way to consume a mind-altering substance. Personally, I had one of those wands and it "foamed" the milk about as much as shaking it would have. I've used a Nespresso Aeroccino a bunch and it makes foam so thick you almost have to scoop it out. Like, rest a quarter on top of it thick. To clean it you just rinse it out, the inside is non-stick. That's my experience but honestly, only you can figure out what's right for you. Order a couple different things from Amazon and return the ones you don't like.

The Nespresso one also doesn't get the milk very hot. It's more warm.

Does anyone have some good Aeropress tips? Whenever I make a cup I get roughly three layers of flavor: Bitter at the top (but that goes away pretty quick), sweet and good in the middle, bitter at the bottom. I assume I'm doing something wrong. Using a water temp of about 180-190 degrees and some generic light roast coffee beans from Sam's Club. Do you stir it when brewing, then stir again after adding hot water? Also the inverted method is really best for Aeropress.

How silly of me. I haven't bothered with the inverted method, primarily due to laziness. I guess I'll try it out.

The french press idea seemed smart but mine has metal on it and isnt a hassle free clean.

Anyone recall, my searchfu is poo poo, what any of the good coffee vendors had for a black friday sale last year? Wife thinks I should wait to order my Rancilio Rocky Coffee + Crossland Coffee CC1 to see if I can get a better price of them. But seriously.......do these ever really go on sale anywhere? These are mainly sold by specialty stores for fucks sake. I can knock off nearly 200 bucks right now at Seattle coffee gear with the 125 off plus a 10% off coupon, i just don't see anyone beating this on Black Friday. And I might be annoyed if I miss out on saving the money for nothing. edit: Mu Zeta posted:I'm dumping my V60 in the trash This is why people think we are nuts for liking good coffee. I roast maybe half a cup of green beans in a $20 electric popcorn maker, and just do this every few days so that I'll always have a few beans on hand that are 5-10 days old. If you really wanted to roast a large batch though at once rather than a little often, for $1400 you could get 70 popcorn machinesand run them all at the same time, roasting 8.2L of beans at once.

Is that the best (easy) option for roasting, just getting an automatic air popcorn popper? I've looked at the manual ones but it's a bit difficult with my kitchen situation, so a plug-in seems much better.
