I picked up a Calth box today. The GW store owner really wanted me to buy an extra box. He suggested that 4 was the optimal number as then you'd have lots of weapon bits to make specialist squads with. *boggle* The store owner is a nice guy, but the GW culture pushes that extreme sales thing too much. I picked up a White Dwarf which was about basic painting technique and had a scenario for using two boxes of Calth. White Dwarf is a lot smaller than it used to be. The owner was taking down posters from the old 7E 40k release and gave me them, which is neat.

He said that the specialist games thing was, as he understood it, entirely a Forge World project. I asked him if his store would ever carry any FW stuff and he said no, that they lose money on that because of the way FW manufactures things. He also said that FW is taking over Lord of the Rings and it wouldn't be a main line GW thing anymore. None of this is new, but I was curious.

If someone was seriously trying to push four copies of a $150 box set on me for "extra bits" I would've just walked out.

Apparently there was a bad shipping fuckup in the Portland area from wherever GW's distribution was. My LGS didn't get their Calth boxes on Friday, then Fedex called saying they'd get it Saturday between 7am-12pm, so they had a guy working a 13 hour day show up at 7am to receive the delivery, only to no-show. Of course, no one's available on Sundays to do silly things like track packages or tell you where they lost your poo poo at.

The moral of this story is that I still don't have my Calth box and it was a less-then ideal weekend because of it.

(Still debating myself about which Legion to pick. Toughest part of this dumb game.)

If you're going World Eaters, definitely use the traitor rules. It allows you to use units like the Red Butchers, and their special legion Rite of War that gives them Hatred (Everything) if they are outside their deployment zone.

I had it "narrowed down" to Emperor's Children, Imperial Fists or Word Bearers (with demon allies, because demons).

Play as Dark Angels and be both good and bad guys.

Alternatively play as Alpha Legion and be the bad guys while being the good guys the whole time.

Also Fulgrim is still alive and chilling out on a pleasure planet, while Horus is dead and his inept sidekick has yet to launch a successful campaign in 10,000 years, even with the most purestrain geneseed and personal tutelage from the "greatest warrior ever."

I hope they get good legion rules. I've been burned too many times. :ohdear:

I'm sure their rules will turn out decent and then their unique units will be awful or something along those lines. Dark Angels don't get nice things. I want to play them anyway.

So do we know if the Betrayal of Calth is a limited edition at all. Becaus if not I was kinda thinking of holding out to at least HH book six came out and we had more legion choices. I'd especially like to see what the twin Angels get.

Welp, just placed my order for the calth set, now to round out my future death guard/iron warriors/whatever with some extra poo poo. I think I want whatever legion-specific terminators. And some rapiers, a deredeo... medusas? A sicaran?

It's impossible for me to decide on a legion yet, much less a list. I still think I want a shooty traitor legion, but more than that I don't know. I'm more confident in my ability to paint hazard stripes than my ability to do convincing rust/weathering on white power armor.

Games Workshop looooves slapping :siren:LIMITED EDITION!!!:siren: on everything it can, so if it was we'd have seen it on the box by now.

My manager suggested it's not a limited thing but take it with a grain of salt. I can believe certain things in it getting repackaged a few months later like the assassins.

Also, when are Thousand Sons due? The more I read the Heresy series (just finishing up Galaxy in Flames) the more they seem like the least tratiorous traitors (excluding Alpha Legion).

And just generally not really dicks.

It's not limited edition, but when stores were placing their preorders the sales reps were pushing that the this order would be all GW could guarantee before Christmas. I think that's how some of the limited edition rumors got started.

There was no realistic chance I'd buy it so I didn't take it personally. If I want 10 flamers for a support squad I would just get the bits off ebay.

Seriously? My two army ideas were drop pods full of Word Bearers armed only with axes, and Emperor's Chidren on bikes herding a hoard of cultists and demons. But Word Bearer Dreadnoughts don't have axes and now Emperor's Children don't have Daemon friends.
