Dr Cheeto posted:I really don't like criticism of hawks along these lines. It's not as if everyone rattling sabers is a civilian, John McCain is about as hawkish as they come and he was in a North Vietnamese camp for over five years. Well only 20% of congress has a military background now, and that's probably far more than the pundit, think tank, official-opinion-haver brigade on either side of the spectrum. Most people can probably think of multiple relatives involved in WWII, maybe a few in Korea or Vietnam, but how many of us have family who fought or is fighting in Afiganistan or Iraq? People in general just don't have a personal connection to military service anymore, outside of the lower economic brackets, so the criticism of someone stumping for a war that's effects they are totally removed from seems fairly apt.

I have not seen a single person say you are bad or whatever for caring about Paris instead of Beirut or whatever. It's all about questioning why exactly the media and governments are focused on Paris when similar things happened elsewhere. I'm sure some people are being lovely about it, so good Bors I guess......?

There were plenty of lovely far-left types who were talking about how sympathy for the Paris attacks without mentioning every other attack was blatant white supremacy. Many of them quieted down after this got circulated pretty heavily.
