Ghost of Reagan Past posted:Challah is delicious and worth the effort. Trust me, I know. I've made challah several times, in several different ways, all imperfectly. The one I'm doing now is half whole wheat, just to mix things up a little. The most popular one I made had an apple filling, but braiding it with the filling inside felt like trying to stop a dam from bursting with a finger. I think I'll try it again around Christmas time.

So the Space Shuttle Pavilion exit doors are rather hard to open--to the point where some people get confused and have to ask if it's really the exit. A group of in-uniform Marines were in the pavilion towards close and were making their way out to the exit, chatting and laughing and checking out the shop. The guy at the front of the group pushed the left door. Nothing. He pushed the right: no dice. He looked back at me with the usual quizzical expression, so I (unfortunately) said what I always say, "You gotta push HARD." Cue every single guy behind him bursting out laughing and clowning the ever-loving poo poo out of him for being some pussy who can't even open a door. Many "Do you even lift?"s were uttered. I feel bad knowing the dude is gonna get it all night now, but it was pretty hilarious.

Instead, its editorials roasted Obama and Hillary Clinton, gay marriage, Islam, "liberal race peddlers," "liberal media," black criminals and "the radical Black Lives Matter movement." yikes

Berke Negri posted:i was thinking more slaves, Filipinos, p much all Latin America, even native Americans long after they converted to Christianity oh but yeah that christian pressure basically made it more and more necessary to have a racial conception of slavery cause when you started off not giving non-christians rights and then all your slaves convert it makes a bunch of people mad like the occasional pope and a lot of evangelicals

Berke Negri posted:there were some edicts on protecting the sanctity of indigenous custom/religion and 'banning' proselytizing for this reason iirc though trying to ban proselytizing is always a mixed bag in colonial policy because clumsy missionary activity that denigrates local religion is often a cause of uprisings and unrest, which has a sinister facet of not wanting to have to deal with revolts but also an intellectual underpinning sometimes of 'well we don't believe in denigrating the local culture, this isn't a religious enterprise' for examples see: India

Furthermore, classical Latin rolled its r's extensively, which is why it's present in I think every romance languages save for French. French is just weird in general.

some of the moral arguments of the prime directive being that if you really can do all things like "cure all disease" and encounter a peoples nowhere near that can you really make the qualitative judgement of "yeah you're not ready for this" ethically
