Nope; for whatever reason, Base creation is in the Diplomat splat. Instead, Strongholds has multipage profiles on a bunch of existing bases.

Dead weight, just like this post.

If the Rebels were to have a base that was super close to Coruscant (which assumingly is still the Empire's seat of power by the time the Original Trilogy is taking place) what planet would that be? I'd rather not have to make up a planet if i don't have to now that this wonderful book exists.

Section 1 is planets/ships involved with the rebellion (Including the flagship Independence  :swoon:), Section 2 is the bases, complete with information on how to incorporate using/protecting a base, Section 3 is Player stuff (3 new species, weapons, gear, ships), and Section 4 is modular encounters to slot into adventures.

Corellia would be a possible fit. Though nominally under the umbrella of the empire, you could easily qui gon gin up an independant minded Corellian captain of industry or underworld figure that would be willing to provide protection to Rebels and/or bribe the local security forces to look the other way.

Talus and Tralus would be okay too. Or a Selonian matriach who is pro-Rebellion.

New Plympto in the Corellian Sector

Native inhabitants are the Nosaurians, they sided with the Separatists during the clone wars and at the end of the war all their combatants were massacred and their noncombatants enslaved. A few escaped and returned home but the planet is sparsely populated.

So to sum up:

-Temperate habitable world
-Few inhabitants
-Those inhabitants hate the Empire
-Lots of old clone war era bases and equipment lying around, good for disguising an active base as a long abandoned one
-Not super close to Coruscant but in the Core

Are the sourcebooks worth picking up if I'm not actually running FF starwars but running starwars in Fate? In terms of "heres a big interesting book of interesting tidbits and stuff to work into your campaign"

Or should I just stick to wookiepedia? The problem with that is that it's very hard to seperate the interesting stuff from the ridiculous minutae

The sourcebooks are chock full of lots of "here's how to run a game/here's how to incorporate this archtype" type info, so yeah, they could potentially be useful for other systems.

If you can find any of the old West End Games sourcebooks for real cheap they'd be perfect too.

My opinion is that the ones not centered on career specializations are better for this (Suns of Fortune, Lords of Nal Hutta) but they're all mixed bags. If your budget is at all an issue, cheap & used sourcebooks from any previous Star Wars games would be a better buy. If not, as jivjov said, they've all got SOME hooks for adventures and characters.

Is there a handy guide anywhere for easily converting WEG d6 Star Wars adventure modules to the FFG system? Or is it relatively little work to convert over the NPCs and enemies and whatnot while just keeping the general framework/story/etc. of those modules?

Well, problem is that my party is literally all goons and I'm almost certain they read this thread so I can't really go into details. I really just wanted to read how other people started their games so I could prepare a bit based on those experiences. Basically the party meeting eachother for the first time and becoming a group kinda stuff. The kinda stuff the pilot episode of a tv show does but with the added complication of the main cast having free will.

You could also start the adventure in media res and have the crew already assembled and together on their ship and jumping right into it. But that requires your players to already assume previous connections to each other and feel comfortable with that, and is probably better suited to a one-off than an actual campaign.

I was thinking something like that where they're forced to work with each other due to being trapped in some sorta emergency situation together like a pirate attack on a titanic-like space liner or natural disaster or something.

A time crunch generally helps to hide limited narrative options open to the party and gently encourage them to be active/work together. It's also how both of the KOTOR games started too.

Our group started with the beginner's adventure and moved on to the free downloadable continuation campaign which was ok but definitely not great for our more open world-seeking party.

Y'know, looking back on it a lot of the weaker moments even in really good games I've been a part of have been the "meet'n'greet" part at the beginning. I think an in media res approach is fine even for longer campaigns provided everyone is on-board with it and has some idea of how they know one another, and if you later decide that you want to touch on how they came to be adventuring together then you can always have a flashback session or two.

Related, our traveller game started with a forced adventure which threw the party together (shuttle crashes into life support machine on colony, scramble to fix it) although that was also because it was originally a one-shot, and took a few sessions to evolve into an actual campaign. I'd either start with a event which forces the characters together, or in media res - everyone there wants to play together, so you can skip over the introductions. If players want they can flesh out how they meet by themselves, and they'll do a better job coming up with a situation than you will.

e: General question, but I'm wondering how often people take new Specializations (whether inside or outside their career). We're about to have our fourth session, and I already want to take a third specialization because the trees are so shiny. :negative:

Preview article for Keeping the Peace is up.

Digging the new species options. Lannik, Iktochi, and Whiphid. All iconic Jedi species.

The signature abilities are sweet too. I'm gonna have to find an excuse to use Fated Duel. It's so thematic, including the ability to increase Wound threshold during the duel..but it doesn't last afterwards, so you can have the moment of winning the fight and then immediately succumbing to injuries.

Just have the party do a bunch of one-shots, then let the connections between them evolve based on their actions in those one-shots. Look for the NPCs and scenes they enjoy most, then weave them into the plot. Then maybe run a flashback session to when everyone first met.
