Yet another one of those games were I think to myself "wouldn't it be awesome to have those days again back from 2000ish daoc?".... nope, not going to happen. Count me mildly interested but I dont think this game will work for a lot of gamer vets nowadays. It may work for kids/students (who will probably just play what the top 3 games on twitch viewer count says) or people with no jobs or no family who want to relive their daoc times. (nothing wrong with that) So yeah, this will probably be filled with around 3000 players over all manifesting in like 5-6ish big guilds tryharding 24/7 and "having fun" with themselves.

I'm thinking that the Warrior 2.0 bundle is a worthy investment. I have a love/hate relationship with DAOC that spans a 5-year term; but enough time has passed, forgive and forget, I say!

I played DAOC from the first month it went live, although there were times I temporarily cancelled my subscription due to Mythic's overwhelming urge to constantly nerf the poo poo outta whichever class I chose. And when Mythic wasn't pounding me with their proverbial penii, I certainly had no qualms proudly making decisions that were dumb as dirt. I started off as a Hibernian Void Eldritch who ended up sucking harder than Charlie Sheen at a Vitamins & Minerals convention. 10,000 Ant and 40,000 Pooka's killed in my crusade to hit Level 50, just to find out that while Void Bolts function like Mage Missiles in PvE, when it comes to RvR the Void Bolts function like a Bow n Arrow: high chance to miss, block, oh and by default if an Enemy is in Combat they get a deflection bonus.

But that's alright, it only took some 2 years for them to fix the Bolts. During which time they released over-powered classes like the Midgard Savage. Truth be told, that's when I fell in love with Mythic again. They made up for the Void fiasco by giving me a fantastic melee class. I also had a great time a few years later playing an equally over-powered, Vampire.

From the looks of "Unchained" I am tempted to say that Mythic is taking the best parts of DAOC - which most should agree is the Battle Grounds feature, specifically Thidranki - and wrapping a fantasy adventure around it. They did try this with WarHammer Online, but someone forgot to buy more servers to support mass end-game Instance zerg's. I assume that's why instancing should be a non-issue in Unchained.

One thing is for certain, when I tried finding MMO love in all the wrong places (Shadowbane, FF Online, Warhammer Online, Aeon, WoW, SWTOR), nothing ever created the same degree of truly memorable experiences, both with PvE and PvP content. So Warrior 2.0 it is!

I will add that with Mythic's track record of "balance issues," I won't expect much other than to take part in e-nostalgia.

And i end with screenshots I've kept for years, showing off my favorite DOAC Raid:

Warhammer Online was fun for awhile. The non-playable lag with 100+ chars on screen in RvR had nothing to do with the servers tho. It was FPS lag and was the horrible engine that was not a single bit optimized for the situation. In a Battleground it was fine but with to much characters/effects on screen it just spazzed out. So yeah, it's mandatory for this kind of game that CSE gets that part of the engine right.

Lucky that part of the engine was pretty much the first thing they have been testing and trying to optimize back when they were doing Smackhammer. Also simulations of what was it.... 2000? characters on screen?

Didn't mean to use a word that some of you only memorized in the finance/economic sense. But I can rephrase, Warrior 2.0 sounds like a decent way to throw my money away in the name of nostalgia.

Although, while I was never dedicated to the cause, I do recall making a pretty penny when I sold a few in-game items, and eventually sold my account. Before e-Bay started enforcing Intellectual e-property rights, MMO's most certainly were a worthy investment.
