The Space Engineers scene is okay. Although some drama queen did go Galt when Steam Workshop support was first added, over the standard Workshop EULA. His mods were rapidly replicated and nobody gives a gently caress any more. Edit: if Workshop support hadn't been added though I think it would probably have ended up a total shitfest like Minecraft. It was probably cool because most guys could either do models, UVs, textures, or animations without much overlap, so lots of collaborating happened. When the thieves were pressed by their "fans" to do more, they would just steal more from lesser-known people on smaller forums to the point where nobody really wanted to release anything to be stolen on CSBanana. What was left of the pre-banana community stayed at cdg.net and eventually died for the most part. I heard Gamebanana's been better about content theft, but gently caress if I can look at their ugly, cluttered site without hating them.

I really wish they wouldn't go and make something like this a steam announcement, I was blissfully unaware that the community had gotten this loving horrible, I even sat through like a whole 10 minutes of that awful interview.

Similarly, the Garry's Mod community was pretty good for a while. People were angry because their server was less popular than somebody else's, so lets steal the gamemode, add some donator P2W poo poo to it, and then DDOS the original server to try attract people to ours. Some friends and I had a server box in Sydney some years ago, and we kept getting DDOS'd non-stop, until they dumped us and told us they wouldn't host it anymore. Along the way, people started charging for mods (which isn't necessarily a bad thing), it's what came afterwards where people were stealing each others work and uploading, and selling it as their own which caused a ton of grief.

I think that Overkill's approach to the modern is understandable, even if it must be personally frustrating for Wilko. Their goal isn't so much to deliver a seamless modding experience as it is to avoid (or, as is now demonstrated, at least delay as long as possible) a moment where the player base, with their infinite toxicity and entitlement, sink the game. Even if Overkill implemented Wilko's ideas and they were a perfect thing of crystalline beauty, it should be clear even from Wilko's account that the other modding leaders would find cause to argue it was the worst thing ever, and that they would use their pulpit to do so. Put simply, there's a reason it's "community management", and not "community support" or "modding support". When a large part of your paying audience behaves like this, interacting with them as rational equals is suicide. Heat Street had a hefty challenge in that cops could really build up a thick defense. Hox Breakout's cops barely get a chance to set up before getting mowed down, which is kind of my problem with PD2 these days. Part of why I like the Lab Rats cloaker holdout is that It's a great big old clusterfuck where you're not just mowing down cops who can't shoot back. It's also why I'd like to do Green Bridge again. That mission required a lot of coordination and would be pretty great in PD2.

Dark_Swordmaster posted:Is there a .txt or likewise I can peruse for this Minecraft stuff? I need something to read while I drink tonight and go into a deep dark hole. Google "minecraft modpack permissions" and you should have enough to drink yourself to oblivion. I think a lot of the Technic Pack guys are goons and they've been at or near the center of a lot of the drama, so I'm sure the modded minecraft thread has a lot of good stories too. tl;dr version is that for whatever reason some mod developers believe that only their modifications are good and others aren't acceptable, so they've pulled poo poo like having their mods disable themselves in the presence of others they don't like, interfering with other mods, or in some cases even corrupting saves when someone tries to play them the "wrong" way. The Kerbal Space Program community has occasionally seemed like it's going that direction too (especially when a few of the drama creators from Minecraft started doing KSP mods), but I think the fact that mods posted on the official forum are required to provide source code prevented it from getting too bad. Not all mods are properly "open source" in that they could be forked if the developer(s) go off the deep end, but the source being viewable by all prevents any useful tricks from remaining hidden from the community at large, so if someone goes full retard with a mod someone else can re-implement it.

For anyone that has modded the game and has all items: is toxic green/ toxic green a color item that you can get? Ive been wondering for awhile and playing this since 2013 and never seen it.

There's solid dark green, solid green, and solid leaf green. Closest you can get to solid toxic green is toxic green/leaf green. I'm not entirely sure why they decided to do color combinations this way instead of allowing the player to pick primary and secondary colors individually.

Since nobody else has mentioned it, Hotline Miami 2 is on sale for $11.99, so if you were waiting for a sale on the game just to get Jacket now's the time to strike. Remember that you need the Digital Special Edition to get the character, so the $8.99 normal version won't cut it. I think the game is pretty good too, but most people don't.

Really it's going to have hit normal Payday2 DLC prices for me at least. Jacket and his piece aren't terribly compelling at $12 vs. the other DLCs regularly hitting 75% sales to make em under a buck. I understand some other vidya game is nominally included but that wouldn't be why I'd be buying it.

It's possible that there could be a 50% sale during Steam Christmas, but I dunno if it's realistic to expect it any lower while Payday 2 is still a thing that we play.

Goonmod Bug Report There appears to be a bug with the Oliver mask related to materials. The bug may or may not be gonmod-related. After the mask is newly assembled, attempting to modify it will take you to the materials screen, where many materials are missing or out of order, and with the "bronze" material selected. but there may be none in inventory. Attempting to purchase bronze materials will crash the game, and add the material to your inventory (but will leave you with no new ones if you re-select Oliver). edit: 1700 GL40 kills to go.
