Since you mention it, what benefit does the inkbrush have over the roller?

Also, is the sniper rifle really just not suited for turf wars? It looks like it would be a huge chore to get any coverage with it.

I'm finally out of the prison that is Regular S Rank, now to never play solo ranked again.

It was mostly from the Skatepark/Dome TC rotation earlier. Won 10 in a row with carbon roller, then went back and forth a bunch and finished that rotation in the mid 80's.

Chargers are great for Turf Wars because they lay down huge thick lines of unbroken paint. Take a shot, step to the side, take another shot, and repeat until you've covered entire chunks of the level without ever being in danger.

In combat, pretty much zero, in terms of turf coverage... I've gotten 1500+ points in a game before the 300 bonus for winning. The sprinklers are great for covering areas while you rapid flick ink around, basically you advance by jumping forward and hammering fire. With the recent updates killing people has gotten a lot easier, but you need four hits at minimum and the inkbrush is unreliable in terms of ink flung per flick. The brush run seems to be faster than ink swimming and if you have ink resistance you can cut through enemy ink while making turns and dodging enemy attacks. The ink strike should be used to hit enemy positions with it, you spread more ink with the brush itself in the time it takes to launch the special. I like inkstriking positions and forcing them to move up to where I have sprinklers to distract/damage them to kill them. Also throwing a sprinkler directly on top of an enemy jump point often kills them or at least weakens them enough for you to finish them off. Inkbrush isn't focused on killing, it's about spreading ink FAST so your team mates can move around and throwing the sprinkler to flush enemies, hamper them, distract them and on rare occasions kill. Same with inkstrikes. The inkbrush nouveau is slightly better at killing with the bubbler special however anything rapid fire will push you back so you can just run away with it on really and mines are pretty useless other than putting them in corridors to slow down enemies. You don't charge into fights like a big drat hero, ambush enemies fighting your team from behind but you'll just get splatted in cross fire if you charge in from the front, so just through a sprinkler.

Specific map tips

Port Mackeral: Full of corridors that screw you over, brush run to the middle and pray you have team members smart enough to follow you, use sprinklers to seal off corridors or put them on the trucks since they'll move.
Arowana Mall: Throw a sprinkler off to the side immediately, cover turf up to the ramp, throw a sprinkler on top of that, check your map and inkstrike where you think the enemies are, this'll refill your ink and let you throw a sprinkler to advance.
Moray Towers: Scream gently caress a lot, try to use cover and throw those sprinklers above you when advancing or on to spots where enemies regularly jump down to slow them down.
Saltspray Rig: brush run to the north part and throw a sprinkler to slow down the enemy on the cross shaped section at the throat to the north, ink the north part, do some walls to help you ambush any invaders this is pretty much the best place for you to fight in the entire game.
Camp Triggerfish: throw them sprinklers on top of the walls to get both sides and annoy the poo poo out of enemies, there's of sections on the grated cat walks where you can do this. (also in the last minute gates lower giving the level more access, check it out in scout mode to see)
Bluefin Depot, throw sprinklers UP on to the bottom of those grated sections in the middle, it'll cover a large area and some enemies will look up to shoot them.

Upgrades: Some weapon damage up, not much since it's about 28 per hit and at max it's 31.2 per hit, defense up is nice but ink resistance is your highest priority, I also like ink saver sub and special charge up, special length up is useless for you. Ink saver main will help you run longer in an emergency but I like ink refill better since I throw a lot of sprinklers.

Summary: mostly a support weapon, fast turf coverage, high mobility, no range, have to get creative with snipers, requires you to hammer attack fast and to fight like a cowardly bastard who specializes in annoying the enemy. If you want to kill the octobrush is the better option.

Also they're great at painting tall walls like in flounder heights, which is something inkbrushes are terrible at.

Saturday Night Lag + Museum bad framerate is not a fun time. After a losing streak matchmaking decided to dump me in an S+ game with S+ chargers who know what they're doing on the Museum map. Managed to slip out and get a few things going but in the end me and my team just kept getting destroyed left and right. Ranked down, map/mode change, promptly ranked back up to S.

Do walls count toward the score at the end? I thought it might be a good strategy to cover walls since the other team never seems to try to recover them, but then I heard an offhand comment about walls not counting.

They do not count towards your score. However, painting walls can have strategic benefit because you can climb up them to reach areas you otherwise couldn't get to.

I changed up my strategy a bit and was doing a lot better today. I had been wearing clothes that upped damage and ink recovery and using primarily the Splat Roller. I decided to try the Brush with Sprinklers and Inkstrike and got clothes that had increased special or special saver. Using that setup I've been able to pop off around 3 Inkstrikes in a round, which has given me a lot more mileage than the Killer Wail.

I finally leveled enough to try ranked. I'm curious to see what the low ranks are like compared to the unranked matches.

Before you hop right in, it might help to do some recon especially for Tower Control and Rainmaker. There are minor and major changes to maps depending on the mode, mostly inkable platform stuff that open up more paths to the enemy base.

I like it, but it requires a bit more strategy than the other splatlings. The long range and charge time mean that it's all about positioning and making sure you can't get flanked, even more so than the rest. Though those moments where you suppress the other team from across the map make it worth getting over the learning curve.

Maybe I'm having trouble wrapping my head around it, but I think it might not be well-suited for turf war. I'm pretty good with the entire splatling family (not bragging [much :smuggo:]) but I rarely break second place with it. I haven't taken it (Or any splatling for that matter) into a ranked match, but I imagine it would be pretty useful in splat zones and possibly rainmaker. Maybe tower control, too.

Try it with a sprinkler and ink strike. Toss sprinklers on the moving parts and ink strike on top of platforms, they are harder to reclaim. I had some fun playing it that way.

Here's a potentially dumb question. Why am I always on the same side of the map? Not all the maps are perfectly mirrored are they?
