All the NPCs will look up and shout, "Do this quest!"
and I'll whisper, "Sure, why not."
I guess ignorance is bliss because I don't care about huge costs/grinds to get shiny and new stuff. I don't really notice it, just something to look forward to.

Raids look hard but fair, just like Domain of Anguish when it released in Nightfall, and getting Lightbringer 10 was waaaaaay more of a grind than masteries back then.

Sucks they nerfed dungeons but at least they didn't touch the tokens. There were always better ways to farm gold, too, so, yeah.

Good idea to make fractals bite-sized instead of hour-long slogs.

Masteries take long to get, but we have boosters to speed it along and you don't need anything besides gliding 2 for the meta-events most of the time, and that's really easy to get. Only thing I didn't like was having it gating progress through the story, but they even made that less painful 4 days into the expac.

Stronghold...well, I was never a PvP guy but having a streamlined version of GvG is better than nothing, I guess.

The legendary precursor scavenger hunts can vary between being a cool world-tour to some really bizarre and frustrating design choices (having to get events to fail, anet, really?) and I'm waiting until they fix that stuff.

At least they kept the grind associated with armor and weapon skins and not new gear-tiers. Yes, legendary armor is the incentive for raids and it's a great thing to have a single armor-set that can switch stats so as to make more room in your inventory and have it bound to your account, but that's really it. Ascended trinkets + exotic armor seems to let you get by, which is nice. At least that's what I heard.

I never got into scribing so I don't have any opinions on that. I've just been raking in the gold with the flax seed harvesting, so that's nice, I guess.

But I don't have the terrible stories from other MMOs to think back to when this kind of stuff rears its head, because I've never played anything but GW1, which did have reputation grinds that meant that pugs would literally blacklist players for not having r10 norn/LB at certain parts of the game. It wasn't all sunshine and rainbows in GW1, guys, and it was never gonna be that way in this game. I know that saying "at least it isn't THAT bad" isn't exactly what anyone wants to hear, but that's just how I'm choosing to look at things.

(also I promise I'll start donating more flax seeds and sand.)

Stronghold is really loving bad and shouldn't be used as a bulletpoint for anything.

Luckily the new Specializations have made the normal, great PvP also great.

Also I think that events failing thing was just a misconception that spread around.

Nope, that's not an event with a failure condition. He will get ousted periodically, and the event is to clear out the ettins or trolls or whatever. You just have to laugh at him while the event is active.

Dunno, I still do goomteq just about every day, and Slaw Facts is sorely missed there. As a bonus, the new squad system makes taxiing much easier. The guild hall is also cool and good, if a gigantic gold sink.

Personally, my favorite bits of the new zones is just exploring them. There's SO MUCH stuff packed into them, and very little hidden beyond more than updrafts. I haven't spent much time in Dragon's Stand though, since pretty much that entire map seems to be about the meta, with about a third of it locked behind it in some way or another.

I mean, it's weeks since launch, and I'm still finding events I haven't seen before in Verdant Brink! I guess my only real suggestion is... Take it easy? Play some events if you want, do some exploring if you want, if that gets dull, go do some base game content and get to know one of your elite specs better?

I dunno, I'm pretty much doing what I did before the expansion just with some more zones tossed in. Not feeling like I have to complete/see all the new content right away goes a long way to avoid burnout from rushing through it.

Yeah no you're totally wrong, birdstaff at least requires you to fail two parts of a Snowden event chain in a row and then leave a totem alive for an escort NPC to slowly box to death.

Also, another birdstaff requirement is winning the first event of the chain so it's even more obnoxious to do. I lucked into a map where a bunch of folks had just zoned into/out of the guild puzzle and the megaserver prompt showed up, so I just stayed put in an empty server and managed to get it done. This after several days of asking/begging/telling people not to finish the events (often accompanied by other players that needed the fail) and getting hosed over every time.

It's going to be changed, I'm sure, but it's still so, so dumb.

I enjoy the new zones, but I wish there was more variety to the event chains. If you go to an outpost, you're running the same event chain every single time. It would be nice if there were multiple chains or at least a few steps in the chain that picked from two possible events for at least a little variety. There's also the fact that it might be difficult to get higher tiers or complete metas when people get too burnt out.

For the next expansion, I'd like to see at least a few regular zones. No phases of fancy meta events, just throw in a few zones to explore on my own time with plenty of singular events or chains like in the regular base Tyria zones. I also kind of hope we don't go after yet another elder dragon right away. After fighting modrem non-stop for a year an a half, I don't want to just move on to something like nothing but destroyers for a year and a half.

I should really just
learn to stop talking.
I dunno, I like all the new content. And yeah there is poo poo that sucks and so totally needs to be altered, but a lot of it is still pretty cool. Wether it is worth 50 bucks or not? Well it comes with the game now so people who haven't bought gw2 should pick up HoT. I'm not gonna start the was it worth that much to us who already had the game because that convo sucked when HoT's price was first announced.

The elite specs I've tried adds a refreshing way to play each class. The new stat builds are sweet, but are very costly at the moment. That might not be bad, but consider that viper outclasses the other condi specs like rabid and sinister. Right now it's stupid expensive to get viper stuff for multiple characters, and for raids rabid alone won't cut it. Like yeah you can go ahead and stick with sinister, but 9 times out of 10 viper is far superior.

The new zones are really cool, though the focus on event chains + metas should have been dropped in all but the last zone for more normal maps. With gliding, of course. Still, the ones we got are beautiful, fun to explore and full of poo poo! I also like TD so take that as you will.

The idea of the mastery system is really cool, and using them to guage progression into certain things is really neat. They are, however, far too large a time sink. I think the way to go with these is to make the useful stuff early on and easy to get, while making the higher tier stuff only for specific poo poo like fraction skins and not stuff you will constantly use. Make the legendary mastery as large an exp sink as you want, but make something full of good poo poo like pact leader and gliding take a load less exp to complete. As it is now, it's too much exp per every little thing.

Raids are kinda like GW1 elite zones and I really want to try one. I've been too busy until now because my job has been, well, busy. Dps checks suck, and really it shouldn't be an issue if not for rage timers. It feels like it could be gating out the more casual players like myself, but again I've not tried it so gently caress if I can say. Also the current way to have someone be a tank is lovely and dumb. I want to use my current strategy of have as much dps gear as I can but allocate a few pieces of defensive gear to offset the mistakes any human can and will make. Like ok maybe have a valk piece or two on a thief who has low HP. Yes if I play like perfect I won't have to worry, but I never like working with the idea of perfection or absolutes. poo poo happens.

Guild halls are loving awsome and getting an entire zone is the coolest thing. Yeah HoT isn't 4 maps, it's 6. But you need a guild to be able to do poo poo in the other two. Also not increasing the amount of people a guild can have is poo poo, and not including an alliance system is even more poo poo. I really wanna see the non-cave hall in its expanded glory.

Oh, but scribe is poo poo. I wanted to be a scribe real bad, and make cool poo poo for the guild. But nooo, it has to be super loving expensive. Each recipe is stupid, and the poo poo you make has to be processed in the guild hall so it's time gated too. Time gated poo poo chairs guys, another 600g more and we can get the level 75 scribe stuff! Man. Fist thing I did when we unlocked scribe was take my ele and become one. But no, everything is way out of reach and is poo poo. Map completion tokens for a loving globe, really?

Anyway, I like the expansion well enough. I'm having fun with the new elite specs, particularly reaper, and find gliding pretty enjoyable. But the maps being so oriented towards the meta events and not just wandering/exploring freely like the other ones has been a turn off for me, they feel much more restrictive and the sense of openness and freedom is one of the things that first really got me to stick with the game.

The worst minor HoT design decision is that gaining Mastery XP just stops after the bar is full. No rollover onto the next level, XP earned just vanishes into thin air until you click the next track, whether you've grinded one extra mob or 1,000,00 XP, all vanished.

Well that's not so bad, as long as you get notified that you've finished... nope. No audible cue and no visual cue aside from the small as gently caress blinking light in the corner and a full bar you look at never, since before there was no need to worry about a bar, you just did poo poo you wanted to.
