What I find funny, stereotype wise, is that an Irishman decides to make a fracas about a split lip. He should have punched back, and as the drunkard vs the sober, fitter guy, Clarkson would admit fault; they'd shake hands and have a(nother) pint afterwards in true pub fashion. But enough of this. Clarkson admitted fault in public after the fact and opened himself up for a workplace assault lawsuit or whatever. Let them sort it out, bury this, and let's enjoy the new Not Top Gear ('cause we won't enjoy the new Top Gear, by all accounts.) e: Oxford comma. I don't understand why the word fracas was such a big deal. I've been hearing the word fracas on and off for several years, yet everyone freaked out that it was used. Someone used the word fracas once and then every mention of the event afterwards was "It was a real 'fracas' alright!" "wow, what 'fracas,' right guys?" Can you believe what a fracas this whole thing turned into? The word fracas almost became bigger than the event itself.

Probably because fracas isn't a commonly used word and many news agencies all used it at the same time to describe the same event so it was kind of weird. Plus fracas is a funny word so its kind of noticeable. I hear "cromulent" more often than fracas and it isn't even a real word.

No mention this would of been a review car given out to lots of magazines and newspapers as well. It might well of been the very car loaned to the Daily Fail themselves for Chris Evans to review http://www.dailymail.co.uk/home/event/article-3012966/Chris-Evans-reviews-BMW-M4-Coupe-Throatier-Aston-Martin.html But no it was all down to the evil BBC and not BMW for selling some one a review car. But then slagging off BMW might loose them ad money

Yeah, an ex-press or ex-demo car is what it is. I have more of an issue with TG's previous instances of treating cars owned by private individuals or small companies badly, like the Stratos replica they were outright told was only good for light tracking shots, then promptly thrashed it, blew the engine, and called it out on handling badly.

If you didn't want your pseudo-racecar to get driven like a racecar by idiots, perhaps you should not have lent it to a television show that is well known for driving racecars like idiots?

I assume these cars lent to reviewers do get pretty well thrashed and you'd expect them to have problems, but on the other hand these are expensive as hell cars that ought to be purpose-built for driving quickly, so why does doing just that give them a bunch of problems? Shouldn't drifting cars around a track just screw up the tires?

Firstly, Journalists arent exactly well known for mechanical sympathy Second.... think of what some people do with rentals, that's what journalists usually do. Some dont, but that's the minority. I once saw a journo continually do 6 grand clutch drops on a WRX because *reasons* and he was one of the more careful ones. Third, now add almost certainly a full day of being flogged without mercy, spun, falling off the track etc. A few minutes drift footage will take hours to capture with a whole bunch of takes and fuckups. No car is going to cope well with that kind of abuse Usually most test cars need a full teardown / rebuild or just simply get crushed once jounalists have finished with them. I'm surprised BMW sold the test car to a unsuspecting buyer, that's a bit of a dick move. Edit : And also add the fact most motoring journalists are really bad drivers! Chris Harris is a very rare exception.
