The 7 ISI servers with stock content are almost always empty. Under that horizontal line are all the servers I can ping ranked by population, absolutely none of them are stock. The online aspect you're paying for is supposed to automagically download the mod when you connect, a-la CSGO workshop maps, but in practice the mods only get partially downloaded, and slowly as gently caress because you're essentially pulling from poor shlubs hosted server. The Belguim 1966 mod is p-loving great, however I had to go to Race Dept to download such that I had full sounds and poo poo.

In short, iRacing is king and no other sim comes close to the convenience and experience they provide, regardless of short comings. I love RF2's FFB and handling, but their graphics are DX9 dog poo, and they want to charge you for the inconvenience that is their online multiplayer.

Man... I want a wheel, but I'm not sure if I $200 want a wheel, especially considering I don't have the space for a proper desk or a wheel rig. :(

Someone convince me that I'm just being self-defeating about my own latent consumerism.

Their rfactor-pro software must be netting them a fuckton of money in licensing fees, because that's the only explanation as to why they managed to gently caress things up so much between RF and RF2.

I'll settle for them realising no-one's making mods for their game because of their stupidly complex tire model. There are ISI guys supposedly helping with the CART Factor conversion and even they can't get it working right.

E: Speaking of CART Factor... Patrick has been strangely quiet lately, turns out he was doing updates for CART Extreme.

I laugh at the people - even here - who didnt throw $84 for lifetime rFactor 2 but will happily buy iracing cars and tracks all day long.

That said, if you want rFactor 2 multiplayer you have to join a league, or start one. Pick up racing is pretty much non existent. I was in a Clio Cup league last year and we pretty much had 15-20 guys show up every week. The ISI forums is the best place to find one.

For pick up racing, I still go to iracing.

One is $80 for server list functionality in a single game, the other is $700 hardware I can use to improve my experience in a dozen games.

Edit:
To be fair, the SP costs only $30, so that makes it a bit better. It's just one more thing people look at and go "why should I pay for this?" Value is a relative thing, and I just don't think rF2 makes a good argument in its current state. AC and pCars cost around $50 and are all-inclusive, iRacing's value proposition is pretty much infinite because it has no competition in its particular market, SCE costs the same as rF2 SP and has way more consistent content. rF2 just seems dead in the water, and I find that frustrating because to me, with the right car and the right track, there's nothing that feels as good to drive as rF2. Maybe I'm being overly dramatic though, ISI never gave the impression of being worried, so who knows.

This is kind of the point. People will spend that much on iRacing because they have proven to be able to sucker in thousands of people to pay for their service specifically because there are thousands of people to race pretty much 24/7. Why would anyone want to pay for a portion of a game that can't promise that? 84 bucks for something that isn't a sure thing is not a sound investment, especially because you'd have to join or start your own league. One would expect that the extra money you spend on the online portion of rF2 would take care of all of that for you, but clearly that isn't the case from your own experience.

I'm fine for finding a league for online racing but I won't pay an exorbitant fee to avoid future subscription fees for a title that I know isn't worth that much. Other titles that are just as solid racers as rF2 are far cheaper, and there are likely more leagues available for those than there are for rF2, specifically because of the price barrier.

I think if I wanted to race against humans any time at all I probably would throw money at iRacing, but luckily I don't.

The way I look at it is, I have paid for rF2 and lifetime multiplayer access, and now when ISI or modders release cars or tracks, its only down to effort to find a league to race those cars or tracks on. You have modding teams like Apex, ASR, EnduRacers (soon) catching on, and finally figuring out the platform, and mod quality is only going up. For me, that all justifies the initial lifetime payment. I'm pretty much having gifts thrown at me as far as I'm concerned.

Anyway, I got side tracked ... I'm in for an RF2 event or league if anyone is starting one :)

Speaking of Reiza, I've been thinking of nabbing SCE while it's on sale as I lean further towards getting a wheel (hasn't sounded like a good controller title) and it sounds like what I'm looking for in terms of good AI (big selling point, going by the OP chart it seems the best of the three marked for good AI that I've seen based on discussion in here) and unique tracks, good mods doesn't hurt either.

Can anyone give a quick and dirty breakdown (or link) about what the deal with the Reiza 2015 thing was where it sounded like they were going to make a new game instead of a SCE expansion or something? Were they going to give a discount to SCE owners for that or just to donors for the project? Also, what's going on with free content being added to SCE?

Beyond that, can anyone give a quick description of what career/season mode is like in it since details seem scarce? Does it have any fluff like joining a team or anything or is it just single seasons with position-based points system?

Oh man, just get stock car extreme. Reiza2015, if it does happen is just a new name for the game because licensing is expiring on some poo poo. In theory it will also bundle Ftruck. This title would be 100% free to stock car extreme owners s oyou wouldn't miss anything.

Please don't look into the forum aspergers hissy fit that took place in the developers forum.

Reiza 2015 is the project that is getting all the updates that were planned for SCE basically. It's going to be released as a new game, but everyone who owns a copy of SCE when it's released will get it for free. It's basically a complete code rewrite along with graphical improvements and a lot of new features like tire damage and dynamic tracks. Here's a video from a few months back showing the new tire model, it picks up grass and dirt if you go off track and flat-spots. Presumably that'll also mean picking up marbles etc with the dynamic track feature. Also it's going to ditch the Stock Car branding, because from what Renato said on the dev forum it's held them back quite a lot in terms of distribution and sponsorship. The Formula Truck vehicles will also likely be included, though they're working out whether they can use the actual manufacturers because the FT licence is expiring. Then they'll be adding the Formula V10, Copa Montana pickups, Lancer Rallycross and Super Trucks as well as updating the Formula 3 and adding the Honda Civic and Renault Fluence to the Marcas cars. Plus VIR which won the track vote (because Empty Box basically used his pull to stuff the ballot and stop Spa winning) and the Porsche 911 GT3 (obviously not called that) because people hate interesting cars. There's also going to be a reworking of Interlagos to bring it up to date and Super Truck versions of most tracks (basically putting jumps on them). Then there's going to be a new UI, new HUD to not look completely like rFactor, drivetrain modelling, VR support and some other stuff they're apparently working on but won't tell anyone about yet. Then obviously it'll have all the content from SCE in, though they've said some tracks might not be in at release because they're trying to get actual licences for them.

TLDR, new game, same engine, more stuff, free if you own SCE regardless of whether you backed the crowdfunding. So buy SCE now while it's cheap and you'll get this too in a few months.

Little disappointed it sounds (:google:) like the "career" is just basic seasons (less capitalizing on the good AI), but everything else sounds great.

Yeah there's not really a career mode, but the championships are all based on the real world series' where they exist. It's pretty easy to create custom championships too.

Speaking of career modes I went back to Project Cars and that game has improved a lot. Though the pit stop stuff is still horrible, setups and presets save now but the pit crew is still prone to doing stuff you specifically said not to do. Finished last in a race where I was running in 4th because the pit crew wanted to fix some minor damage when I came in for fuel.

Just dropping in from the iRacing thread to let you all know there's a 3 race Gooncar winter series starting this Sunday. Skip Barbers on ovals, all the tracks are base content so all you need is the sub and the car. We usually get fields of around 15 so lets try pushing that up to a nice round 20. Oh, and they have a $50 yearly sub deal going on until the 4th, so if you've been away and want to come back, now's the time.

UK people, Thrustmaster T150 is £109 right now, easily the cheapest decent wheel I've seen and about £50 less than a G27. The T300 is also pretty cheap at £230 through Amazon Warehouse which basically means the box might be a bit rough but the wheel itself is fine.

I've tried it on mine. Triple monitor is better, but the huge screen is pretty neat. Projectors have lag though. I cant remember numbers but I think my HD33 was one of the better ones at the time of purchase, around 60ms.

2 notes. Reiza are moving ahead with Reiza2015. There's not going to be a beta build ready for this year but they're going to make a formal announcement with the new name in a few weeks followed by a trailer with some of the new features. Also Dream Pack 3 for AC is out on the 15th with Brands Hatch, 2 McLaren GT3 cars (think that's now over 10 GT3 cars), some more classic Lotus F1 stuff and most importantly the Ford Escort Mk1.

So I have to take something back I said a couple months ago: That the weight difference between the Forumla rim (1.2kg) and the BMW rim (2.1kg) is noticeable but not that much of thing. At that point it was mainly an indirect comparison though, I would use the big round rim for one type of cars and the small rectangular rim for another. A few weeks ago I switched from the BMW to the F1 during a training session with the MX5 in iRacing and immediately improved my pace by about half a second and my best lap by one second (on a 1 minute lap). Tried other cars and games and the principle held true. After not using the BMW rim for a longer period going back to it today the FFB immediately feels more subdued and mushy compared to the F1. I think I'll sell it. I'd still like a big round rim, but the Porsche is too expensive even for my money-wasting ways.
