Yeah I tried both, it was a black screen both ways. There is an update though, maybe that would fix it.

My Dumb Maybegood Tips For Drive Car Shine And Others:

(I'm 40 hours in so far, so I'd like to think I've picked up a thing or two, but I'm still a newbie in many ways)

  • FWD drag you along; they're slow, they're easy peasy.

  • RWD push cars. If you keep pushing, you're gonna spin out: Push a little, let off the gas, point in right direction, push more. It seems banal, but you've just gotta think of it in terms of basic physics, especially when it comes to the Stratos.

  • 4WD are magic chariots and then you gently caress up and die.

  • Think about it all in terms of learning an instrument: start slow, then increase speed gradually, but only when you've learned the part. If you just keep your foot on the pedal until lose all your wheels upside down in a ditch you will learn, eventually, but you'll learn faster if you tickle the throttle, caress the brakes and take turns slow but steady.

  • Someone mentioned--and I've heard the quote several times before--that it's fast when it looks slow. When you actually think about it, that badass handbrake turn you were so proud of might av been slow as hell. Instead of spending three seconds sideways at 5MPH and more time accelerating, you could have followed a neat, easy line in and out and negated the turn in half the time.

(What it's all about is going sideways at 100MPH)

  • Get used to leaving assists off. The only thing you really need is the dash, everything else is clutter. Third person mode gives you a weird perspective, timers and progress markers are unnecessary and distracting and visible pacenotes is bad practice. It's all about basic multitasking: The more you learn to listen, the more time you can spend looking at what matters. If you've got numbers and timers and visible pacenotes to distract you, you're gonna end up embarrassing yourself by wiping out on a long wide left 6 or something.

  • Get used to your co-driver feeling fickle and unreliable. On some courses he'll be too early or too late, on some a 3 will be a 2, or a 2 will be complete silence. Sometimes the difference between a 6 and a 5 is a light tap on the brakes or half a second of coasting, and sometimes it's a downshift.

  • Drive the Stratos.

Day 1A: I drove a 60's Mini around Greece, taking advantage of the slow speed to get used to listening to my co-driver. I realized just in time what "don't cut" means, and finished the stage in one piece. Despite driving a slow car in third gear, my face was still :stare: the whole time. Then I did Pikes Peak but fell off.

I hadn't played a rally sim since the original Xbox (I forget if it was RBR or McRae 2) and forgot how insanely intense this poo poo is. Everybody should buy this game.

I can only recommend gradually easing yourself to the realism, because holy poo poo this game gets intensive. I started playing this back in May with a 360 pad and 3rd person. Then switched to dash cam. Then disabled the driving assists. The bought a wheel (cheap as dirt DFGT, but it's good enough). Then switched to manual sequential transmission. Now it's just about impossible to get bored of the game, I'm 200 hours in and still playing every day.

I'm loving how detailed the co-driver is in this. I remember that Xbox game I used to play having more simplified stuff. Like, what would be "very long medium left" in that game is "crest then left 4 tightens 2 don't cut" in this. Just fantastic. Can't wait to get my wheel.

Does anybody else on a gamepad use the right stick as a shifter? The original Forza had that option and it was one of my favorite things about that game.

More explicitly: it's broken if you do less than five (all the rallies) events because they forgot to scale the income on a non-event-basis. If you still want to roll Custom Championships, only do five event ones until it gets fixed next patch since five, one-stage events gives more credits than one, eight-stage event currently. :v:

That said, the "Breakdown" screen still doesn't reflect that the reward multiplier also applies to that (pretty sure both in terms of bonuses for settings and repair costs) amount so those numbers don't directly add up anyway in Custom Championship unless you're matching the standard Championship specifications.

Clarification edit: that is, if you added those up and multiplied them by the reward multiplier it showed when you made the Custom Championship, then it should work out (assuming you're doing a five event one, otherwise it'll be wrong according to the aforementioned bug getting fixed next patch).

Yo if you're getting disheartened by the top times in daily events, this might be why. Apparently there's quite a lot of cheating going on.

I started with full realism, no assists, H shift+clutch and struggled so hard at the start. But after playing the Abarth 131 for a while something just clicked. I finally managed to complete 4/5 events in a championship in 2nd/3rd place with it, got Monaco as my last event and on the 2nd stage... lost focus for a second, clipped a snow wall and flipped over the edge, knocking me down to 4th or 5th place to finish. :vince: Still stuck in Open league :(

However it earned me enough money to get the (RHD at last) AWD Rs200! It just feels... right for me. How it behaves when I'm really pushing it just makes so much more sense. Placed first in my first two stages in Finland, then cooked it really badly and flew into a tree in fifth gear.
But it felt so right while flying into that tree at warp speed.

Has there been any word on upcoming cars? Specifically the Celica GT-Four?(Seen it mentioned as being in a list of cars the devs are planning, somewhere) I drive one in real life so I'm keen to see how quickly I would die if I actually took it onto a rally course. :D

The 2015 Polo is confirmed for 1.0, there's strong rumours about the i20 as well so they'll have most of the 2015 WRC lineup. Nothing's been said about any other old cars though. I want to see the 80s class expand a bit personally since compared to the other non-specialised classes (F2 and R4) it's the only one that's gonna only have 2 cars come 1.0. Granted one of those is the E30 and therefore nothing else is needed but still.

Slow is fast, at those early difficulty settings the AI drivers aren't too exacting so if you can put together a clean stage you'll be in the top 3 most of the time. Especially with the 60s cars which are incredibly slow anyway.

Also new weeklies are up, 2000s are in Wales and Group B 4WD are in a rainy Finland.

Have to decide if I should save up for a 2000 or get a rallycross car then, but money sure is easy once you've got your hands on a hillclimber. I don't do the whole custom championship thing, but one run on Professional feels like such easy money.

Playing Rallycross will return your money pretty quick like Hillclimb, keeping the credits flowing for whatever (including a 2000's). 2000's won't; they also kind of spoil you because they're just so drat good that going back to other things reminds you that not everything is a 4WD with impeccable suspension.

Rallycross was a really fun detour for awhile for me, but I set it aside once I'd fully upgraded all six cars :v:.

Why do rallycross cars feel miserable to drive? They feel really weak and sluggish, slide all over the place. And do I really need a wheel to take corners without either slowing down to almost halt or sliding out? Does everyone online have a wheel? They all get 2 seconds faster times than me.
I hate this car, I hate rallycross

Edit: Driving against the AI adds another part of misery. They drive on train tracks and push me out of the way at any chance they get.

30km/h "drifts" aren't that exciting or fast. How do I drive rallycross properly with pad?

Also as I said before AI cars are like on train tracks. They push you out of way way without any effort, in online people still push you out of the way but it also affects their course as well and I actually can return the favor.

Edit: In Höljes Clubman starting from second row right side the car on the left always tries to ram me into the barrier only second after start.

I have played about 6 hours of online now. I'm finding it the easiest way to earn money. Hillclimb is boring and rallycross against AI is the most miserable experience I've ever had while playing video games.

Netcode seems ok, never seen people warp or anything funny like that.

It sometimes crashes while loading next track for me (online only problem) but otherwise it's stable. there are bugs, but they are mostly visual like people having wrong car models for half a race and people having trashed cars at start when they're supposed to be pristine.

Haven't seen cheaters, but I find it weird how people who drive all over the place much more than me are still somehow as fast than me. (I hate rallycross)
