I honestly want to say "aim better" if you're not nailing people with the inkzooka as the hitbox for it is pretty drat big. The silly thing got nerfed for a reason. Only catch is you don't want to be aiming up and it is pretty meh on Heights & Towers because of the extreme height differences which tends for the bulk of the shot ending up on a wall or going over their heads.

It's good for inking paths up walls on heights and is especially good at clearing that drat sniper balcony over mid on towers. General rule of thumb for the inkzooka, besides lead your shots a bit, is that you want to be on about the same level as your target, give or take a bit up or down.

Now that I've actually had a chance to play the towers, it looks like a lot of people have finally gotten the message and stopped camping that spot. I mean, it's a real vulnerable spot to be hanging around in--most shooters can hit it from that little kickramp just below it, it's in easy sniper/inkzooka range from pretty much anywhere in mid, and all it takes is for one determined squidkid to duck the laser (Which is really goddamn easy), ink a path up and BOOM, all of a sudden you got a guy in your backfield. I've done that a bunch of times--ninja squid makes it almost laughably easy.

Speaking of, I was looking for something kinda new so I took the dual squelcher out for the first time in a long time. It works pretty well, though it takes a looooong time to splat someone with it. But I figured that the weapon's range and the utility of the echolocator made up for it. And it did...until I remembered that the .96 gal was a thing that existed. :downs: In any case, I think it's a better splatter than the regular squelcher, despite the lower damage, because the firing rate makes up for it.

As someone who still just uses a Splatterscope, the best place to set up shop is the small box on the elbow of the last ramp. I had to start shooting from there to deal with E-Liters and I found that the ability to intercept enemies at any part of the center, plus being able to control access to the balcony ramp, made it the perfect spot. As an added bonus, that block gives any teammate jumping to you cover when they land, and lets them dive right into the action.

There are tons of youtube guides, and I recommend searching out ones no earlier than November, due to the rebalancing. Anything in particular you're looking to learn?

Also, the best way to hone your basic skills is the singleplayer mode.

Here are some things that have been suggested by the thread in the past and some other stuff.

General:
-Don't shoot at your feet
-Squid, Jump, Shoot, Squid, Jump, Shoot
-Jumping and shooting can give you a little more distance/height and is good for dodging shooters
-Jumping and shooting can also make you a sitting duck for wider ranged weapons (rollers, paintbrushes)
-Painted walls are good places to hide
-You can super jump back to your spawn point at any time, it could save you in a pinch

Turf Wars:
-Don't waste time getting into fights with evenly skilled people unless they're absolutely in your way
-Spread out to cover as much ground as possible. Sticking closely to your teammates mostly ends in wasted ink and double-kills for the opposing team
-Walls do not count towards the score but half ramps do (ex. Blackbelly Skatepark)

Unrelated, I find the Inkzooka easy enough. I mostly use it to take out Snipers/campers. It's mostly useless on Bluefin Depot, Hammerhead Bridge, and Urchin Underpass.

Adding to this

-squid constantly. Squid-kid-shoot-squid-run-kid-shoot-squid-run-kid-shoot-squid-run rinse, repeat
-don't be afraid to squid and run away, especially if outnumbered. Learn which tactical situations you have the advantage or disadvantage in.
-don't forget about your grenades or your super
-ninja squid is super good
-ink resistance on shoes is super good
-super jump all the time so you don't waste time getting back into the fight
-don't super jump ALL the time to the frontlines because it makes you an easy target (without stealth jump, or even with)
-play the objective, splatoon isn't deathmatch. Either paint walls or control the tower/rainmaker/capturepoint. Kills are good but not top priority unless you're in danger.
-In unranked its fine to spend time painting as you go, but in ranked matches you should loving SPRINT to the objective when the match starts. First team there usually gets a huge advantage.

Might I add some more?
  • Actually, it's best to sprint to the front in the first minute even in Turf Wars. Certain maps get hard if you let the other team get a foothold on your side. (I'm looking at you, Moray Towers.) If you're not careful, you might end up in a lock-out position, making it hard to break out.
  • Look at the map. Look at the map. Look. At. The. Map. LOOK AT THE MAP, DUM-DUM!
  • Unless you know what you're doing, Superjump to the safest Squid/Beakon. Use the Superjump Boost abilities if you need to get there fast.
  • If your team rides the tower, superjump straight to there from the spawn to keep the momentum going.
  • Choose your weapon and gear according to the maps you play. Compensate the cons weapons have with certain abilities.
  • Learn to use motion controls if you haven't. It will make you more nimble than just using the analog stick.
  • You might have not noticed, but you actually have a health bar. When you have ink around the edges of your screen, you are more susceptible to getting splatted. Health regenerates quickly when you sink into your team's ink.
  • I went to Burger King today, and the burger was tasteless mush. I shoulda eaten a pizza. Join team Pizza.

Yeah, if you superjump to somebody on the tower it updates your position if the tower moves so you land on the tower.

However if somebody is already on the tower, especially if two people are already on the tower, don't actually stand on it. Hop off and then go flank the enemies that are about to shoot at the tower. Distract them from the tower or kill them before they notice you so that the tower can keep moving uninhibited.

I've been having trouble understanding where all of the Splatoon = "Revenge of the 90s" sentiments have been coming from in this thread. Unless there's a chunk of the decade I missed, even putting it next to stuff like Wild & Crazy Kids is a distant comparison.

Maybe if they replaced Callie and Marie with Omar Gooding and Donny Jeffcoat, or Kenan and Kel, I'd see it better.
