ded posted:The autoloader looks exactly the same on the t-72 and t-90. Do they both also have the ammo run in a circle around the turret ring? The autoloader looks the same because the T-90 is a T-72, it was originally designated T-72BU. But then the Gulf War happened and err 'damaged the T-72 brand'. So they renamed it.

The T-72 "brand" was damaged because our gunners were whacking them at 3-4 km while their rounds fell in the dirt.

I'm pretty sure the same thing happens to M-1 tanks when given to Arab countries. Which is to say that the Russian missiles proliferating wildly everywhere were designed for the purpose of blowing them up like so https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FyWX8Z8KwIQ

Duke Chin posted:drat, the Abrams and the Svvveeeeedish Leopard look downright roomy compared to all the T- tanks. Gotta have room to fit 3 guys. The new Armata is hilarious, though. Its big deal is that it puts all 3 crewmen in the hull with an unmanned turret for maximum protection. But the turret is even bigger than the past T-series tanks and bigger than pretty much all Western competitors, so it's still a fuckoff huge target. And the crew is almost totally reliant on cameras to see outside.

It also could be one of those M60's with the M1 turret on it.

At least assuming the missile hit the ammo compartment and the interior door was closed there's something of a chance that the crew survived

why is there a hatch on the T72 and T90 by the breech of the gun that opens? Ventilation? Doesn't look like theres a casing to eject.

There's a little nub of casing that doesn't get consumed during firing. When the autoloader is activated (you have to actually hit a button to start loading), it flips out the case. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KPsCYaSoMII

27th October this year, a Danish F16 pilot ejected over the ocean due to broken landing gear. The Danish Air Force have released a hour long video of the incident and interview with the pilot. Spoken language is mostly moon speak, with some English radio chatter. http://youtu.be/Hz4vKMsUvpE

The Zumwalt has finally left the Bath Iron Works for sea trials. I imagine that exceeding design specs by touching the water and being out in the sun means it will be in drydock for the next two years.
