until the 40s and 50s, the field we now call "electronics" was called "radio science" because radios were teh only things that used vacuum tubes, etc. it's about time we quit naming fields after a specific kind of product don't you think

i'm glad i don't teach in a computer science program. a colleage who does tells me about the hordes of moms coming in for advising with their sullen kid gong "well he's always on that computer, he's really good with computers, so we were thinking computer science"
