I just got into the institute and it's kind of a hamfisted setup that tries way way too hard to make it a "difficult" choice as to betray them or not. On one hand, you all seem pretty nice and on the surface your goals look pretty noble. You also seem marginally less insane than the Brotherhood or Railroad. Also you're ran by my (the player's) son and seem really legit happy to have me here! On the other hand, I read your terminals (which no one complained about), broke into your old FEV lab, and it's pretty clear there's tons of hints at really unsavory bad poo poo that sounds like every other main badguy in a fallout game (exterminate all those dirty wastelanders!).

The faction choice in Fallout is real dumb because you can become leader of the Institute but theres no option to resolve things diplomatically by doing something like not making sentient robots to wash the floors.
