But wasn't Corrections already a steaming pile of poo poo when Collins was in charge, it's just we didn't find out until whats-his-name was in charge. Guess it's not so much "Collins can fix it!" but "Collins can hide all this stuff so it doesn't embarrass us in 2017's Election Campaign"

I predict a lot of "I was not the minister of corrections when X happened" excuses.

Our policy with Fiji was a really good example of how to respond to a coup or corruption imo. Very selective and targeted sanctions

Ghostlight posted:That our government will continue to make overtures that fundamentally contradict our expressed values as a nation and the values expressed as his own by his honour John Key the Prime Minister of New Zealand should come as no surprise given Nationals extensive history of providing perks, positions, jobs, and paybacks to its own party members, friends, partners and piggybanks throughout their term in power. Both parties tend to be equally guilty of this kind of poo poo but people seem to pretty much accept it as inevitable.

I mean, I fear what she's capable of doing as Police/Corrections minister, since, as a minister, she's more 'effective' than anyone else in the Nats in the role (this is how civil servants in the ministries feel about her, of course).

I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure your next president will be a Clinton, as ridiculous as that is. From the outside I think that A) term limits should be extended to more political positions and B) term limits should also cover immediate family to try to limit the creation of political dynasties. But I'm a filthy socialist so take that with a grain of salt.

Accelerationism is leftists who don't mind if fascists/hard rightists win because they will destroy society so totally that leftism will look great by comparison. It's fairly optimistic, even from the perspective of people who elected Andrew Little as a serious challenger to John Key.
