Yeah and this is why I'm fundamentally skeptical of the "reasonable republicans are going to show up and coalesce around Rubio or Jeb". Trump is in fact what the modern GOP represents.

He's only saying what they're all thinking. There's a reason people keep saying "oh his ceiling is 15%...20%...25% There's no way it's above 30%!!"

Dude is going to win the nomination because the modern GOP is a giant insane echo chamber. They hate anything that isn't them and there still goddamn pissed off about a having demographically symbolic president

I don't think he's more honest, at least than other politicians. He just has beliefs closer to the base. Everyone from Cruz to Bush really bought into what they're saying. It's kind of like when Republicans praise Bernie because "at least he's honest," even though his beliefs aren't just shared and hidden by other Democrats.

I love the guy who laughs at the idea of Jeb! being a successful candidate.

That one little chuckle at about a minute in is what sold me on the idea that when politicians relax a little and let the mask slip they talk about politics the same way the rest of us do. Ted Cruz in particular comes off as if Stephen Colbert had decided early on his Conservative act was good enough to fool people into getting elected, so listening him get down to brass tacks is weirdly humanizing.

I wonder if Trump was aware of Cruz's blatantly obvious scheming vizier qualities and clips like this will whip him up? He likes to talk about how he hates dishonesty and betrayers and his career has basically been defined by petty revenge (possibly including this presidential run to get back at Jeb over a Casino license), he could really take offense to Cruz playing like an ally in public while talking poo poo behind his back. I mean, the Presidency is the goddamn Hunger Games, ultimately there can be only one so even friendly candidates have to turn on each other eventually, but Trump seems to have the kind of ego that demands potential rivals bow out/down.

Then again I think I'd prefer it if Trump embraced him as his VP so he could get Richard III'd as soon as possible.

Overall this doesn't look good on Cruz. I think he's getting way too cocky. Sure he has some big endorsements in Iowa, but the Ethanol lobby wants his head.

Also talk radio goes dark the next few weeks... Talk radio are Cruz's biggest backers... This will be fun.

Communism will help more white people than anyone else. Any equal measures unfairly provide less to minority populations just because there's less of them. Democracy is truly the tyranny of the mob.

Cruz has some pretty stellar endorsements in the media/christiandom and now he got Plaats

quote:

Vander Plaats is one of several right-wing figures to coalesce behind Cruz, who has attracted the support of ultraconservative activists like Troy Newman, who wishes the government would execute abortion providers; Ron Baity, a pastor who links gay rights to Ebola; Flip Benham, a convicted abortion doctor stalker who holds protests at gay couples’ weddings; Sandy Rios, a virulently anti-LGBT radio host and hate group official; Dick Black, a Virginia lawmaker with noxious views on marital rape and “baby pesticide”; and Cynthia Dunbar, who thinks gay rights advocacy is “the same type of thing that was done in pre-Holocaust Germany.” While Vander Plaats and Trump would have made a strong team, as they are both birthers who admire Russian President Vladimir Putin, the Iowa activist said that Trump disqualified himself when he failed to show up at last month’s family forum.
