So the sale items today includes Renowned Explorers: International Society which I never even heard of before today, but kind of looks like if FTL and Banner Saga had a baby. Which if true would be right up my alley.

Has anyone played it or have any better knowledge of it?
Yeah, I bought it during the last Steam sale and I like it a lot so far.
The big selling point is the encounter/battle system. It's a bit hard to explain comprehensively and doing it in great detail would be :effort:, so maybe try and find a decent Youtube video for that.
The basic gist though is that there are three approaches - Aggressive, Devious and Friendly. Every character and enemy has abilities/attacks that each correspond to one of those three (all party members can attack for aggressive and have one or more abilities like Impress or Terrify for the other two, but they aren't equally good at all of these; enemies seem a lot more limited). Using abilities influences the mood of those targeted and an overall global mood, and each of these moods has effects that can inform what abilities/approaches will have the best result. On lower difficulties you can do whatever, but on higher difficulties influencing moods and planning ability use around that quickly becomes important.

I don't know why you ever consult GOG user reviews. :v: Emperor's Tomb was cool in many ways when it first came out but it was awkward and frustrating even then.
Fun fact: The only other use of that engine was a Buffy game.

What's frustrating is there hasn't been a worthwhile Indy game released since 2003.

Bought two mystery games and got Gabriel Knight 20th anniversary edition and Crusader Kings complete.

Nice games, but still kinda dissappointed with what I got. At least they'll look nice on my internet bookshelf.

My Christmas message to the thread is don't forget that GOG's catalogue is now lurking with those sorts of games too. Don't risk it friend.

Now to see about a refund, or at least the hide button.

Long Live the Queen is actually good and fun for that price though

are you slow or do you not see the "failed"

see, that is an example of a skill failure! AKA something you are not supposed to do in real life and the game reflects that!

Well I admit my thoughts of requesting a refund were foolish so I'll not do that. What excitement is a mystery prize if it's always a win?

I wouldn't have considered this game in a million years either so that's something.

I'll maybe give it a go if you're adamant that it's good - I may well have prejudged it unfairly.

Divine Divinity is good though right? I got a code myself but I think I'm gonna keep it.

Also, how does The Wolf Among Us hold up against The Walking Dead and Sam & Max respectively? It was 75% off and I assume it's gonna go that low again. It's only one season though.

You can't compare Sam and Max and Wolf Among Us, they're two completely different beasts. It's a noir detective drama as opposed to Walking Dead's zombie apocalypse. The ending isn't as solid as it needed to be, but it's a good ride, and especially on discount, I consider it to be one of Telltale's best.

Long Live the Queen is great and if the anime artstyle makes you froth with rage so much when the game doesn't even have the kind of poo poo Idea Factory games have then that's your loss.

I admit I was guilty of blindly lumping all anime games together because of poo poo like Huniepop, my bad. Upon less blinkered inspection the game actually seems quite complex, Crusader Kings-ey and using the cutesy princess stuff for black comedy purposes. So that's good.

Bought King of Dragon Pass on impulse for like $1,50, bought a mystery game and it turned out to be Space Colony HD, which looks great!

Also, if you like Telltale's stuff, they have very good deals on Back to the Future, Tales of Monkey Island, and Tales from the Borderlands. Tales from the Borderlands is probably Telltale's best, and for $12 it's a steal.

Since TIE Fighter is on offer again right now it seems like a good idea to mention that I updated my Custom DOSBox to further improve upon the joystick deadzone feature I added.

If you want to play the (superior) DOS version using a 360 pad then installation is as simple as swapping out DOSBOX folders and adding deadzone=30 under the [joystick] section in the main .conf file. Mail me if it doesn't work and/or you want to shower me with insults.
