What was wrong with the Securiton vault elevator? Is this some kind of precursor to the Iron Keep Bridge where a 5 second break of immersion in a hundred hour game causes a segment of society to have a loving breakdown?

At first I thought it was going to be about the shenmue thing. This is way more hilarious. What exactly do they propose is going on? The feminist cabal has infiltrated tecmo and is using their power to forcibly block them from engaging in a profitable venture?

So a Tecmo employee who manages the company Facebook replied to a question regarding the new DoAX with "Do you know many issues happening in video game industry with regard to how to treat female in video game industry? We do not want to talk those things here. But certainly we have gone through in last year or two to come to our decision. Thank you." So angry nerds everywhere, likely 99% of whom have never played nor will ever play any game in the series, pointed a finger at the Feminist Menace for bullying a poor million dollar company into not releasing the next in their poorly selling, poorly received, entirely niche Ecchi Dating Simulator (featuring volleyball mini game).

That Argonaut guy is deluded if he thinks Nintendo "stole" the idea to make a 3D game with their most popular IP from him, as if it wasn't axiomatic. I recently read some stuff from Koji Kondo about SM64's sound design that I thought was interesting; one of the big reasons Mario vocalises all his movements was because traditional "game-like" sound design tricks Kondo had used for 2D games were at odds with the relatively "realistic" free-roaming 3D environment, so rather than trying to conceptualise and create a sound that embodied "jumping, but in 3D!", for example, they just had Mario grunt something as he jumped and thud as he landed, and it was fine.

Oh, no, he sounds like a nutter, but I just meant the game. (Also, from memory: Croc 1 had no hub world, Croc 2 did. I only just finished the episode and don't wanna edit it back in now.) Croc and Earthworm Jim 3D were my introduction to 3D platformers as a dude who had a PC growing up, and let me tell you: the former isn't amazing (its best moments were in the sequel), but holds up a shitload better than the latter, tank controls and all.

Wow, that reader mail on IT this week mirrored my experience fairly well. I put more than a few hours into the MotoGP demo and actually got decently quick around Mugello... But I was completely caught off guard by the PGR2 mention. I played my fair share of stuff like Cat & Mouse, but the real game to me was putting in literally thousands of in-game miles on the slowest car in the game: the Mini Cooper S. All of the cars in your stable have an odometer, and the Mini Cooper S definitely had somewhere in the 5 to 6k miles on it. A 3 lap race around Edinburgh might be 4.5ish miles. Yeah. However, it wasn't just me being a weird teenager; I primarily did this because I found a reliable lobby of British folks that liked to do slow races, so it was a full lobby of 8 people all driving the slowest car in the game. On weekends there used to be a Japanese lobby of 4 or 5 guys that would only race New Beetle RSi's. Ironically, this was kind of formative for me considering that I race cars now and my car of choice is extremely slow in a straight line. With the Mini Cooper races, if you didn't preserve your momentum and nail all of the corners just right while making sure that you didn't cause, or was a part of, a wreck, there was no way for you to make up the time on the straights. It was punishing; get it right or else you're going to be waiting for a while. This applies to driving Miatas on track and learning how to actually race cars; if you screw up a corner or a series of turns, it's going to be extremely obvious on the next straight because you're not going nearly as fast as you know you can be going. On the other side, if I'm driving a Miata and I sneak up on a BMW M3 or Corvette, it definitely wasn't because I was faster in the straights and you'd be surprised at how many people don't want to let such a "slow" car like the Miata by. That's my cool Project Gotham Racing 2 story. Phone fucked around with this message at 15:50 on Dec 11, 2015 |
