The Canadians replied that they would rather ride a moose.

Today I found out that there is such a thing as the Pacer Preservation Society.

These people must be stopped.

Having recently tangled with an urban preservation group over a development application, I think that the main selection criterion for such groups is "Have absolutely no experience in, less training about, and no personal involvement with the particular avenue of progress you're hell-bent on arresting".

There are preservation groups who have gone out of their way to purchase Hitachi's down my end of Australia. Some things just need die so they never blight their thousands of suffering victims passengers ever again.

Most of our locomotives were built in 75-82, they are older than pretty much everyone I work with. They are reliable as gently caress though, last winter someone had left the window in the back cab open and there was literally 1m+ of snow in there, it just kept chugging along.

I've done (relatively) long distance tourist trains and now run streetcars in commuter service. Why?

We have these in America, we are just retiring them, they are reliable sweedish imports.

Saw this on the trip I took from Portland -> Chicago about a month ago, I thought it was odd but I guess it happens a lot. Over 2,257 miles we were only 7 hours behind schedule, not too shabby considering.

Man, I wish it wasn't so dark out. 3rd unit is puking diesel like a bulimic girl after a buffet. But when these units burn 80+ gallons an hour at full blast, you need a big gently caress off fuel pump.

Its turned off but the floors and every thing are coveted in diesel.

Hazmat is here at least.

Amazing old safety video. If you have ever sat through a safety video, you hate the preaching at the beginning, but trust me the stuff you get to see after that is about as badass old time railroading as you can get.

The incident occurred on November 5 but was only published by Poland's national railway company on Wednesday as "a lesson in how not to cross the tracks", Miroslaw Siemieniec, a spokesman for Polskie Koleje Panstwowe, said.

He added that the train was delayed by 40 minutes as a result of the accident and the cyclist was fined $180 ignoring the red light and the boom gate at the crossing.

Yep - its still UPS "peak season" as they call it. Though it should be winding down in the next day or so. Thats one of our "hot" Z trains, those things are usually cooking at 70 mph

I am sure there is.

Because of the near week long I-80 shutdown, I had a loud knock at my door at near 730pm on Weds, and then one yesterday 10am on a Sunday! UPS is struggling now.
