T.G. Xarbala posted:You might like the STALKER games then. It was influenced by Fallout and later vice versa, though it's a comparatively more "hardcore" survival experience. I personally recommend the third, Call of Pripyat, as it's the most well-rounded of the series. I love blowouts and more games need drastic events like what STALKER had. Oh and STALKER is influenced by this amazing novel http://www.amazon.com/Roadside-Picnic-Rediscovered-Classics-Strugatsky/dp/1613743416

goddamn deathclaws that's a fully upgraded fixed two-shot shotgun, where two-shot actually multiplies the number of pellets rather than adding one, on a maxed Rifleman

So, after 166 hours I have finally decided to finish the game. For anyone disappointed with Beth's insipid writing, I recommend going with the BOS ending. If their endgame path doesn't elicit an emotional response, especially if you've done some work with Railroad and the Institute, then I guess nothing will, or you're a bona fide psychopath, in which case you will enjoy it for different reasons.

Ouch! Should've hit the crit button for that last shot.Siljmonster posted:I love blowouts and more games need drastic events like what STALKER had. Well, more like directly inspired but yeah. First time a radstorm hit I thought, "wait, poo poo, is this a blowout?" I started to freak out before I realized I wasn't getting blasted by explosions caused by unexplained phenomena and the sky didn't turn into the gaping maw of hell. Then I took a Rad-X and figured I'd pop a Radaway when it passed. Can't wait for the GECK to drop, I wanna see even bigger, badder radstorms. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3ylsvHs65p0 Most of the effect of STALKER blowouts are actually the result of good art direction on a changing skybox and some atmospheric lighting to set the tone, so I'm pretty excited for what modders could do with radstorms if given proper tools.

So I told robo-son to eat it, you stay down here with my other stupid son. Or if you meant earlier than that obviously I saved hunkbot Danse though. Walking into Railroad HQ (provided you've done their quests - meaning you've earned their trust) and proceeding to rain hellfire on them - you, their loving hero and saviour - really should make you feel something. At the very least, once the dust has settled and everything is quiet, some sadness, as you walk around the corpses of people you've betrayed. Executing cowering, helpless synths at Bunker Hill isn't the easiest of things to do either. I suppose it's supposed to drive home the point that BOS are literal Nazis.

I had a playthrough where I tried to beeline to that quest- you still have to have progressed the main story.

Which buddy should I prioritize meeting early on for maximum entertainment value? I'm actively avoiding the main quest after killing Kellogg (thanks for the tip, fam) and now I'm just discovering cool places with my buddy and turning what's left of civilization into the Circus Of Nihlism. That much plot-nonspecific dialogue starts to get stale as hell, and I know it's a Bethesda game but at least one of them has to be stupid fun to roll with, right? Buddies I've met thus far: - MacCready: Started right out of the gate with some ooh-rah tryhard bullshit so I didn't even give him a chance and immediately sentenced him to toil on Abernathy Farms in his underwear - Piper: Sweet, sometimes funny/witty, but won't let me be tell off the sundry idiots I meet in the process of avoiding my bullshit responsibilities to my terrible child - Dogmeat: Woof - Cait: Hits the give-no-fucks notes required but her character arc brutalized me with its ham-shaped fists - Nick: Nyah, see, nyah - Danske: Oh good, the one goddamn person I've always wanted to roll deep with, Buzz loving Lightyear

I always assumed that was some kind of bug with his passive dialogue triggers. I refuse to use a companion who has a problem with me using power armor or picking locks anyway! I ended up shipping him off to another settlement besides my usual home base just because of his habit of never shutting up.

Codsworth is great because behind the cheery English butler personality lies a bloodthirsty sadistic gently caress. He trash talks enemies and is super aggressive (his cheesy tachyon joke also made me laugh). One of my funniest moments in the game so far was clearing out Reville satellite array; I ducked behind some trailers to heal up after getting shot by super mutants, Codsworth continued dicing them up. I suddenly hear the telltale whine and beeping of a suicider, and Codsworth finished cutting a guy up, turns around and says "Are we having fun yet?" and then the suicider blows him up. Great comic timing.

Piper is probably my favorite companion from a general dialogue point of view, and also a "no you can't be a dickhead psychopath" view as well (I have literally stolen nothing in any of my playthroughs yet, a first for me in Bethesda games). Hancock is pretty darn cool so far though for this run.

Speaking of Gunners in that area, I just let the game run in the background while I sat on the roof of a bus, waiting for a highway Gunner Commander to get out of his power armor and go to bed. I mean, there's a bed right next to the spot he literally never moves more than five feet from, my settlers get out of power armor when they need to sleep if they're wearing any, clearly the functionality is there. Seems like a no brainer for a cool Sandman kill setup, right? ... Right?
