It seems like a huge phenomenon in France but I've never really seen anything written about it. GentlemanBrofro fucked around with this message at 18:27 on Dec 13, 2015 |

lmao at the concept of french rap. there's never anything written about it because it's not even worth blogging about. that's how bad it is. the french may be known for their artistic sensibilities but when it comes to rap they ain't poo poo (just like all non-english rap with the exception of a few spanish rappers)

There's some good french rappers, and excellent ones depending on what your expectations are. Most bigger named French rappers are currently emulating chicago/atlanta trap currently, and they do it pretty well. Then again, I completely understand someone not liking French rap if they only speak/understand French and aren't in a French speaking area. Kaaris, Gradur, Booba, Lacrim, Niska, Dosseh, La Fouine are all worth checking out on YouTube (keep in mind a LOT of their tracks are country-blocked unless you are in Europe)

Budget Prefuse posted:stormzy had some massive singles this year with shut up being my personal favorite song of 2015 That's like the mellowest, most chill grime track with vocals I've maybe ever heard. Also I tried to keep up with the grime (and uk bass) scene a bit when I was overseas, but it's kinda difficult here. Any sites or anything you check? Everything seems based on singles and whatever so you'll not get albums, it'll be like 15 stray singles and like 2 rinse.fm mixes that have heat dropped in the middle or w/e. And people please, please keep that foreign poo poo out of the thread or I'll be forced to close it. There's exactly 1 french rap song that's decent: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K63GUKF9EOc Also I don't think dude was even talking about rap necessarily, since he said the last 200 years of French culture. I've never heard of anything that actually examined the influence of black culture on french culture, but I've not really looked much into it since most of the stuff I dig is all the new wave cinema and I'm not sure there was much crossover there. I do know that France has been a home for a lot of black ex-pats and whatnot since they seem to be better about treating negroes as actual people than the US (this really goes for any place in Europe from my experience, but that's a whole different subject). Not to get too serious or w/e, but in case there's any black dudes actually here i fully recommend leaving and living abroad pretty much anywhere else in the industrialized world (besides like australia where racism's practically the national passtime). i know i'm getting out again as soon as possible (or I would, were I a black man and not a shy japanese youth).
