Thats a pretty cruel thing for the game to do. I dont know how many times I had an enemy ship broadside at like 10km in the Myogi, my cursor perfectly lined up for hits right under the smokestacks and shell after shell would hook and twist harmlessly into the water or right through the smallest gap in the superstructure. At least you graduate to the Kongo, which I had like an 84% winrate in and almost double the average dmg I had in the Myogi.

Any tips besides never getting close to anyone ever get the upgraded guns and hull ASAP, so that you get the good AP going. broadside is risky, and your guns turn fairly well with the turret upgrade, so you can stay angled a lot and avoid getting hit also get the new orleans ASAP

Is there like a big list of ships with the basic gist of how to play for each one? I'd hate to be sitting in a brawler trying to snipe from maximum range, or vice-versa.

Not really, but I could write something up.  I prefer shooting nerds with goons.  No double, 3.3k base xp. 188k damage, my new record. I don't play BBs often outside of goon divs. Also, the match after you left wdark, I got a double strike on a fletcher in his smoke and a tirpitz. Much laughter was had.

Trying to snipe at near maximum range is generally a bad idea in any ship. I mean if you have a 15km range and your only realistic target is 14km away go ahead and shoot, but most ships will not hit a sweet spot until the target is at about 75% range or less. But the bigger and slower the target, the easier they are to hit. Some ships have relatively low muzzle velocity - the most notable example is the Cleveland. While it has good firepower, the shells have a long travel time and are poorly suited to hitting maneuvering targets beyond 10km. Once you get close though it can quickly overwhelm targets with a heavy weight of fire. With ships that have their main armament heavily weighted to the bow (e.g. North Carolina, Iowa, Izumo, Yamato, Aoba) don't fret about getting your rear turret involved if it means exposing your broadside to a enemy shooting back. On the other hand ships like the Myogi, Amagi, Konigsberg etc can kite really well (run away and shoot at ships chasing you) because their main armament favors the stern of the ship. IJN cruisers can also drop torpedo spreads at ships chasing them. What ships are you playing right now?

I'm sure there's absolutely no way goons will abuse this karma system. NO WAY AT ALL Edit: A big economy change, that people may not have seen, is that Equal Speed Charlie London (the 50% xp flag) is moving from Confederate to "Top Gun", a new achievement gained for killing 5 ships in one match. Confederate now gives a +50% bonus commander xp signal (Zulu Hotel). India Bravo Terrathree (Its just a flesh wound!) now reduces repair costs by 10%, instead of 5%, making it much more attractive for high tier boats. Jesus WG, took you long enough to realize that. Pepsicola gets all its guns on stock hull now, and Nicholas gets a ton of buffs and a better stock experience. Kiev gets an HP nerf, and all high tier RUS DDs are losing HE damage and fire chance. I'm sure a lot of people are celebrating. Zao HP nerf?  Lots of buffs to German CAs. In particular, no more engine knockouts from HE on the tiers 3-5 boats. Don't know what "torpedo protection" adjustment the Hindenburg got... Though most Papa Papa flags will probably end up acquired almost exclusively through reward boxes given how ludicrously hard that medal is to get, and I question why they even bothered giving the Arsonist and Liquidator flag penalties given there's already one that completely removes that chance - assuming these don't add there mod after the value is set to 0. As for "friendly" torpedo damage reduction, I've mixed feelings. On the one hand it's certainly nice to not die horribly if someone is a moron, on the other I'd rather just see them jack up the penalties instead to punish them. Not a change I'm against or anything, I just tend to lean more towards retributive rather than just making it less fatal to others. Oh, CVs will definitely like them, especially IJN players. I haven't seen hard numbers, but from personal experience it certainly seems like US air-dropped torpedoes are already more likely to cause flooding than IJN ones, and US bombs definitely have a higher fire chance, though I cannot remember the exact numbers off the top of my head. Admittedly, barring additional changes mid-high tier IJN carriers are still hosed in the strike role compared to US ones after all the nerf batting of them especially, but it at least helps.
