For some reason when I play a sub I only ever seem to kill other subs. Usually it's because by the time I get close to their BBs, either most of their team is already dead or most of my team is dead and their destroyers are coming for me.

It's the worst when you and an allied DD are trying to dunk a sub in a confined area and another DD blows his entire torp load at you all from 3.5km away thinking he's helping the situation.

Using depth charges on a sub are so satisfying, but if there is another DD ally anywhere close I just don't bother anymore. The chucklefucks always wait until im quarter speed and right over the sub before blowing 12 torps in my face.

Then to rub it in they yell at you for being in the way of their torps. :suicide:

It's even better when you get dunked by friendly BBs that decide a tiny sub with a friendly destroyer right next to it would absolutely be the best target for their primary battery. Especially if that destroyer is just about to ram the sub to death :suicide:

You don't need to drive submerged most of the time. Feel free to stay on top and be twice as fast. Your team DDs should spot at least a bit so you know where you can slip between enemy DDs and SSs.

the points go into a global pool which you then spend on individual guys through some button in the barracks screen. it tells you how many points it costs to promote someone but I haven't seen anywhere that shows the relationship between stars and the excellent/elite/whatever levels in the text descriptions.

If you go to the promotion screen and click the little eye button after dragging a commander into the slot to be promoted, it brings up a window showing that commander at any star level. It's useful for seeing how skill change when you go from four stars to five, though the change is so small I doubt I'd ever do it except with a commander I know I'm going to use on almost everything.

Situation: You are in a submarine and surrounded by two destroyers and one light cruiser.

Solution: Sink them all.

:getin:

Deep-diving and staying still throws pubbies off masively. After they DCed a bit, I popped up and sank the two destroyers with almost point blank torpedos.

There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to any nation's destroyer lines. Like, certain ships are just better than every other destroyer of the same tier, but their strengths don't follow any pattern. Tier 3 Fubuki is better on every level, tier 6 M-class is the same, tier 8 Akizuki is probably the best, and son.

It's not like there's a rule to torpedo number or gun number or anything either. A lot of high tier ships have 4 torpedoes, and some high tier ships have 15. This game is weird.

Imagine four 'mechs waiting in a queue. Time works the same way.
They tend to follow some patterns but every so often there is one ship that is just better.

Also, the Connecticut has *torpedoes*. It is my new goal in life to surprise dunk an enemy sub with them.

Yeah, its funny to watch enemy destroyers/subs/whatever get very confused when a BB (B actually) launches torpedoes at them.

Speaking of battleships, the Kaiser might be the most well rounded tier 4 BB in the game, The armour and AA is not as good as the Wymoning, but the armour comes second overall and has better secondaries, The kongo is fastest and has the best penetration out of all of them, But less turrets and any BB, and even some cruisers can pen the side armour of it

The Fubuki is so utterly amazing. I think I got every battle achievement: unsinkable, hero, and the 5 kills in 2 minutes achievement as well. 2 full screens worth of scrolling, all so I could get 50k more silver from the elite attack.

edit: although I just got woundless hero as a Florida (or whatever the T3 US BB is), which I haven't seen before.

been playing this game like crazy. I fuckin love BB artillery parties. Nothing like hitting a sub that just surfaced because you mistimed the artillery time to impact and missed the CL you've been hunting.

I drove my A-class into the middle of the enemy team, and then my game crashed.

I logged back in and I was still alive.

I got 8600 spotting damage.

I'm really enjoying the A-Class. The lack of AA hurts, but the really accurate, fairly fast firing guns mean a lot when fighting other scouts, the sonar is great, and the torps are adequate. I managed to slip into the enemy battleship row and get close with it and ended up taking out 5 of them.

Fubuki still mightiest T3 DD, though.

Matchmaking is alright if you don't play high tier cruisers.

Platooning in weird/unpopular ship combos isn't convenient but just don't bring that sub/carrier/lightcruiser group and you're fine.

It's good to gang up with other goons. That changes the odds somewhat in your favor (as the rest of your team may end up being pubbies).

Just finished a game with my Kasier where I did 6000 damage on a defeat while being on very low health for most of the match, due to a suicidal destroyer managing to get one lucky torp hit out of his entire spread, that detonated me for 2000+ damage.

I was still alive longer than everyone else but our carrier :negative:

You know, there's a lot of stuff that makes this way better than World of Warships, but the single biggest thing is that it actually has team mechanics. Scouting for allies, finding a sub a clean way through to knife all the enemy BBs, escorting people, dunking on subs, all these things are just as fun as sitting back and blasting people to hell with a BB.

I've been playing all the classes and it's nice and refreshing because there's always something I can do that's useful and different (even if it's scouting in a sub). About the only issue I have had is subs are pretty drat slow, but I think I've got the hang of them finally.

The player base of the game is totally random though - tier V/VI matches seem completely different than 3/4. I've been getting accused of cheating lately either in a Wyoming (like below) or Fubuki whenever I get in to a game with people who largely seem clueless and have no situational awareness (don't go in a straight line at a constant speed if you are getting shot at by a battleship). This game ended with me duking it out with another Wyoming who revealed himself by firing at me and I just kept lighting up the same spot because he got himself stuck on some rocks, until eventually I stopped getting hit messages, but by then I had the advantage in health despite eating a torp midway through the game.

edit: also elite is 3 stars, excellent is 4. There's a "promotion preview" button, if you click that it brings up a window and there is a drop down to select the levels to preview.
