I know that with J-Pop they have a really disgusting thing where the supposed virginity of the pop stars is valued over everything else, to sell the idea of them being pure and sweet girls for creepy fans to obsess over dating. Any idol who doesn't maintain the fake cutsey pie virgin routine and play nice for the creepy otakus gets canned.
