It's not that simple. They are binary files.

And they don't have a patch process in place; which is why they have to keep pushing the entire client out each build.

With all this money, and all this staff, it completely boggles the mind that they can't use something like VisualPatch ($395) or NSIS (free) for these client updates.

Heck, we wrote our own in a few hours. It'll even patch itself.

Derek Smart is a massive liar who is jealous because his career in gaming was nothing more then a wet fart. Star Citizen is on track to be hugely successful. All of the claims about this game being dead, mass lay offs and people walking out, have proven to be wrong. I use to be in the camp that believed Star Citizen's development was going to fail in spectacular fashion, but nothing at this point supports that belief. I will still only buy this game once its retail though.

So, assuming they do manage a commercial release of the game, what exactly will their business model be? Are the whales going to keep on pouring thousands of dollars in each month after all the dreams coalesce into the reality of SC being just another video game?

I have experience doing alpha for 43 games. Those were prior to the crowd funding - green lighting marketing ploys so common these days. some of those were so rudimentary entire portions of the game were still in white box to force stability or pretend there was some sort of stability. In my two decades of experience, even with the network induced low frame rates and the CTD issues, SC is by far the most stable of a true alpha build as there ever was, if not more so.

Also ED was a ton more stable than this. Even the early access on the Xbone was stable as gently caress.

SC has the integrity of wet cardboard and if you fart too hard the game will crash

SC is an example of a game not fit for public alpha getting pushed out the door far too early to give the illusion of hitting a milestone.

I love how the community is acting like it will revolt if Star Citizen gets a bailout (with strings attached, of course), while we've heard from the rumor mill that Croberts is actively seeking one.

Maybe they won't actually revolt, but God that community is the worst.

When CR has to openly make a move, to salvage whatever cash and carry he can towards his and Sandi's Hollywood dreams and for all to see (or alternately punting this whole project to someone else), it will be glorious.
