New Florida poll.quote:Trump leads with 36 percent in the poll of Florida Republican voters. Cruz is now second with 22 percent. Marco Rubio is third at 17 percent. Jeb Bush is fourth in his home state, getting 9 percent. Ben Carson has slumped to fifth place with 6.3 percent. Chris Christie is at 3 percent. John Kasich is at 2 percent. GJ Rubio, Bush. I forgot to say last week when we were talking about this mythical business wing rearing up and crushing the Tea Party at long last: Jeb Bush is that attempt.

Rubio said on Fox this morning that he might slow down the omnibus in the Senate because it lacks a rider about Syrian refugees: “If they’ve got [a] sufficient number of votes at the end, they can always ram it down our throat, but I think if we can add some days to it, the way Sen. [Jeff] Sessions is talking about and maybe some others, that process of slowing it down allows more Americans to wake up to the reality of what’s in the bill and perhaps as a result demand that their elected representatives do something to make those changes on things like the Syrian refugees we’re talking about now." The Senate just agreed on a series of four votes on the omnibus Friday, by unanimous consent. Rubio is in Iowa today.

zoux posted:I dunno he just dropped $2 mil on a vanity purchase to troll the United States of America. Once he can't make nearly as much money as quickly anymore, vanity purchases like this and his allegedly far more expensive Picasso are gonna bite him in the rear end. Particularly if they get forfeited/seized or sold to cover legal expenses or fines. Also, old habits die hard. Even in some hypothetical outcome where he doesn't get reamed by the Feds (he's gonna get reamed by the Feds), his career will most likely never ever recover. And once he's had a round of court, do you think he'll just stop spending big bucks to make himself feel better and front on the internet? Even if he gets off with his savings intact, he'll likely Mike Tyson his way through the money trying to live out his rap video fantasy. Hell, maybe it'll only spur him on now to become a media figure. Like, getting busted by the FBI is gonna be his version of Tupac's prison period. CommieGIR posted:Yeah, I remember when he first popped up in the news, even then they'd been investigating him for Fraud for what....5 years? It all plays into his misguided hip hop/mafioso delusion. To him, "jokingly" offering to short stocks on Twitter is like when rappers openly flaunt active criminal ties (RIP ODB) or post pictures of themselves with guns and stacks of bills or bags of product on the internet. Or it's like mobsters like the Gottis in the '70s/'80s operating in broad view and getting away with it for decades while giving the feds the finger. Or like the kids of Russian oligarchs buying diplomatic plates and police lights for their Lamborghinis in order to speed with impunity and recording each other beating up homeless people. zoux posted:
Ugh, that and the Art Basel background from a few days ago.... leave it up to a cynical, one-note, corporatist hack like Romero Britto to be a Jeb Bush supporter. I'm sure they paid him like $10mil for that Picasso filtered through the mind of my 8 year old cousin bullshit too.

Is it just me or is The New Republic more liberal than it used to be? Back in the 2000 era it was slightly center left and even neoliberal at times, but I've been reading it again recently and seems much more left leaning, probably more left than Vox. It's not to the level of The Nation but it definitely seems more liberal. They've got David Dayen writing for them. I don't think TNR during the previous decade would have had someone like him.
