America loves the scrappy underdog. The fighter that, despite the long odds, doesn't give up and continues on in the face of adversity. We root for David over Goliath not because it's impossible for David to win, but because there's the slimmest of chances, and if he could pull it off -- wow. David might get knocked down once -- maybe twice -- and we admire his tenacity. If he fails, we feel bad, but, if nothing else, he's earned our respect for giving it the ol' college try.

What Americans don't respect are bested losers who don't know when to quit. It's been a fair fight and they've been knocked to the ground, over and over and over again, not recognizing when it's time to say "uncle." In doing so, they turn from the scrappy never-say-die hero in our eyes, to the stubborn and annoying, sore loser. And they earn our scorn.

¡Jeb! is the annoying sore loser who doesn't know how to accept that he's been bested. To accept that his opponent is the better man. To shake his opponent's hand, congratulate him on a "game well played," and walk away with feelings hurt, but head held high. Nope, ¡Jeb!'s never ever gonna quit -- he's gonna win this thing by annoying us even harder until, gosh-darn it, we recognize that he deserves this thing and hand him the nomination just cuz he's so darned scrappy. And a Bush.

But it doesn't work that way. No one wants to root for ¡Jeb!.

Well, technically he hasn't lost anything yet.

Were you around in the years 2000-2008 in America by chance? I wasn't even really paying attention to politics yet and I can still understand the bitterness, no amount of scorn and mockery aimed at Jeb!'s failed campaign is too much IMO.
