Dude it's the Empire. They are literally a world destroying (the sound of a trap being sprung is heard), galactic empire, bent on conquering and oppression. They are lead by a literal warlord and backed by a (another trap goes off) religious zealot that can choke people with their minds. I don't think OSHA is around or if the Star War equivalent were around, they would be as effective as a blaster vs a jedi with a light saber. (SPROING) Seriously. No one was around to tell the Grand Moff (sproingy!) about a small thermal exhaust port, not much bigger than a womp (SPROING) rat, that could conceivably blow up a small moon sized space station. And you want these same people to install a handrail so some precious minimum wage technician can feel better that he won't go rear end first into the literal planet destroying death beam? Hey, they at least gave them bike helmets.

It's not just those technicians. Think of all the narrow catwalks around critical machinery like the force field generator and pits. Hand-rails only pop up if there is a person looking menacingly down.

Just watched this the other day with my wife who'd never seen it. Besides all the BS poorly-aging CGI inserts the only thing that bothered me about it is that it was never really established that (or why) Luke had a grappling hook belt and why it takes him so frigging long to get it unwound. Also she pointed out that Jawas are basically Minions and I really can't fault her for that.

The plot was quite a bit tighter than I remember also, when it wasn't lingering on costumes/special effects, but sadly the sword fighting doesn't really hold up for me. I do like that every time someone tries to pull some sneaky maneuver (lifesignless droids hiding in an escape pod, putting a homing beacon on the Falcon) the other side immediately next scene figures out the zig and zags. Refreshing how little artificial stupidity there was compared to the prequels. Anyway really enjoyed all these A New Hope gifs as an extremely timely coincidence.

Clearly they use the grappling hooks as safety harnesses, what with the lack of handrails and everything.

I'm confused. I mean, what I'm reading here is that you people don't carry grappling hooks all the time?

The worst thing about this is that he doesn't even need to dodge, because gleep-glop misses him by like six inches anyway.

Presumably grappling hooks are standard issue stormtrooper gear. (Due to the huge pits with shoddy bridge controls)
