Enh, I kind of agree with the guy. At some point, you need to look at minimum wage as a social safety net that all companies should contribute to, not just companies that happen to employ minimum wage earners.

eg. I run a tech company. This guy runs a tomato company. Each business nets $100k at the end of the year. There is a problem though, people in low income brackets can't afford food and housing. We increase minimum wage by 40%. My software company is completely unaffected. This guy's costs go up by 400k. Why is it just the responsibility of the tomato guy to fix this problem?

In Ontario, the provincial tax rate is 5% for income under 40k, in Alberta it's 10% up to 125k. They could lower the tax rate for low earners and make it up by increasing the tax rate on high earners and corporate profits to distribute that social responsibility. It seems a little unfair to focus all the responsibility onto a small set of businesses. As the tech guy though, I like it but I feel a little dirty about it

Businesses that complain about minimum wage increases deserve to fail.

If you are on the razers edge that an increase of $1 to wages is going to hurt your business you really need to take a look at yourself.

Wind and Mobilicity were fine in Toronto.

I don't know why anyone would be optimistic about Shaw ownership. Shaw already "competes" with Rogers for cable TV and internet in a good chunk of the country and it doesn't seem to have helped competitiveness all that much. On the other hand, real competition from provincial providers like MT and SaskTel seems to make a huge difference.

Nah! A little chocolate will do

yeah that's the one thing that I don't like about the carbon tax policy, it is giving anti-NDP people plenty of ammunition to blame the NDP for "destroying the economy" and "ruining businesses" and the media will eat it up because it is sensationalist news and that's what gets people clicking links and reading useless drivel.

So gas will be expensive like it is in every other province now, well thems the breaks Albertans, but they do have a point in that is the ANDP prepared to actually combat some of their complaints? This guy is claiming that he is closing his greenhouse because natural gas will be more expensive, he will have to pay his workers minimum wage AND holiday and overtime pay (holy poo poo!!!), and the grocery stores will still bring in goods from other areas because it is cheaper that way. There is something to be said about how what we do here doesn't matter if we still allow other provinces/countries to send stuff here. Now I understand because of NAFTA we don't have much of a choice there but there must be something that our government can do to offset some of the costs in situations like this but then again that's probably what was happening before and now his easy ride has disappeared and he is getting free shots at the government instead of trying to help his situation.

What is worst about this is that people will rally around this as an example of how the NDP is terrible, instead of seeing what was probably a lovely place to work where the owner was probably making more than enough profit and not redistributing it in a "fair" fashion. Sure the Dragons probably think it's a terrible plan but gently caress Kevin O'Leary and those dinosaurs

I actually agree with this, and I'm in favor of replacing the minimum wage with a mincome or UBI scheme. It's unclear whether it would actually drive down the labor costs of minimum wage businesses (people might just pursue an education without working a no-skill job, causing market pressures that drive no-skill wages upward), but you make a good argument for why the minimum wage is unfair from a business perspective.

By the time the Crown wrapped up its cross-examination of the senator and former newsman today, tempers were so frazzled Duffy was accusing prosecutor Mark Holmes of "body shaming" him after a giant pumpkin contest reference. Our Leslie MacKinnon was in courtroom 33 today.

Canadian military forces were very much in the thick of a major offensive by the Islamic State against Kurdish forces in northern Iraq on Thursday.

Two CF-18s struck a fighting position belonging to the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant, northwest of occupied Mosul, the embattled country's second-largest city.

Canadian special forces personnel training Kurdish forces laid down supporting fire to back up the Kurds in repelling the offensive that involved hundreds of extremists, the military said Thursday.

...

U.S. media reports say American, British and French jets also flew strikes as the multi-pronged offensive dragged on for over 17 hours.

Trudeau hasn't done jack poo poo to change the military mission over there so far. He hasn't pulled back the jets or sent over more trainers. If they award medals for vacillation, Trudeau better get two.

A porno runs into too many issues like lighting costs, STI screenings, hoping Duffy and Wallin have the right chemistry, etc.

What we should do is just hook up a 24/7 webcam feed of Duffy's kitchen and bathroom so Canadians can see that Senate expenses pay for all the garlic cabbage rolls, fried chicken, and potato salad that Duffy crams down his superinflated craw. Then after he's done, Canadians can be a part of his strained, bowl-creaking bowel movements. You'll hear every chew, every smack, every grunt, every splash.

SUBJECT: Total Scumbags

BCC: JohnnyCanuck

BODY:

I as a senior citizen am totally disgusted at the way you treat us Canadian Senior Citizens. You, Mulcair and Wynn, three 2 bit politicians will do anything to attempt to make yourselves, look good at the expense of the Canadian Taxpayer. CTV reported the following:

Not fair is an understatement. Wow… This article was on CTV news last night. We copied it to send out.

First let me remind you of what you stated day after day week after week and month after month during the recent election campaign. You all stated that Prime Minister Stephen Harper was running an 8 billion dollar deficit and was lying to Canadians about the size of the deficit and how poorly Prime Minister Stephen Harper had managed the economy. Then you JUSTIN TRUDEAU PROMPTLY ANNOUNCE IN THE LATTER PART OF THE ELECTION THAT YOU WOULD RUN A DEFICIT OF $10 BILLION DOLLARS IN EACH OF YOUR 1ST 3 YEARS BUT BALANCE THE BOOKS IN THE 4 TH YEAR.

This as you know was a flagrant lie, supported by the other two disgusting lying politicians MULCAIR AND WYNN. TOTALLY DISGUSTING.

Well in less than 45 days since taking power the DEFICIT is now projected to be in the neighbourhood in the 1st year of $25 BILLION.

This is a total disgrace for which you three scammers should be totally ashamed and possibly be charged with illegally misleading all Canadian Citizens.

In your disgusting rush to make yourselves look good, you are bringing in people by the thousands that will no doubt be proven to contain some Islamic Terrorist, that will lead to the unfortunate deaths of some Canadian Citizens and the destruction of various Canadian property.

In the CTV report, I doubt that any amounts have been included for such things as: Hotel Accommodation, Meal Allowances, Local Transportation, clothing allowance, cell phone allowances, future accommodation costs, medical and dental costs, etc. etc.

Prime Minister Stephen Harper also clearly stated that his government was willing to take in Syrian Immigrants but only after they had been properly checked out or vetted. You Justin Trudeau in your rush to make yourself look great have opened the flood gates to radical islamic terrorists that will join the other Syrian immigrant group with counterfeit Syrian Passports.

In the meantime you will be paying each and every immigrant legitimate or not in access of $4,000 dollars per month which includes some of the additional costs that CTV failed to mention.

It is extremely obvious that in order to make yourselves look good you have rushed into this without any level of good financial or moral accounting as well as detailed background checks. It makes me nauseous to recall the terrible things you said about Prime Minister Stephen Harper repeatedly over the past three years.

I think back to your qualification Justin Trudeau and let me remind you, you have a degree in acting, you have been a part time acting teacher, and you were appointed to be in charge of the Katimavic Youth Program by a good friend of your father, Senator Hebert, only because you were the son of another disastrous Prime Minister, your father Pierre Trudeau. That was it your total qualifications for Prime Minister of Canada, what a terrible joke. Oh I forgot to mention that you had the total support of CBC, CTV and all of the other left wing media.

I only hope that at some time you will be held accountable for your actions and your total disregard for misuse of Canadian Tax Dollars which by the way are my and every other citizens tax dollars not yours to spend with total disregard.

You Justin Trudeau have mirrored everything that Barak Obama, another political disaster, has done during his 2 terms of office, even to the extreme of using selfies to promote yourself over and over again. It is obvious that you have no conscience or regard or respect for managing the Canadian Government or the efficient spending of our hard earned tax dollars.

Finally, I have to wonder If you, Mulcair and Wynn are so concerned about the Syrians why have you not opened your homes and dinner tables to them. Especially you Justin with 2 official residences, at our expense, 24 Sussex and the great Canadian Summer Home you are occupying because you feel 24 Sussex is inadequate for you your wife and children.
