Wooper posted:It's funny how in career mode, apart from starting in a poo poo mini, you have to run the gauntlet of uncontrollable RWD cars while you l2p before you can get into the real deal, 4WD cars. The gauntlet continues into Group B too, at least if you buy the 205. Despite being 4WD that thing is terrifying with the new physics.

Things don't really get 'safe' until you reach group A. E: I would encourage everyone to go read the PC Gamer review if you want a crash course in horrible writing. I try not to be that person but I am legitimately wondering if he actually played the game when he starts talking about buying upgrades. njsykora fucked around with this message at 05:21 on Dec 19, 2015 |

Guys. Guys. GUYS. My first green segment. Bloody hell, that was a horrible read. PC Gamer posted:The cars look different, sound different, but they feel incredibly similar and lacking any real, unique character. They have similar weight, similar grip, similar gear ratios. Swapping from a '70s rear-wheel-drive Stratos to a 2010 Fiesta will come with faster times and a more responsive, stable car, but it's not enough, and cars in the same groups are barely distinguishable

Only glanced at the concluding statements and was amused to see him say the Richard Burns fans would have to keep waiting (forever), despite the fact that many of them have taken to promoting Dirt Rally as a must have and spiritual successor. That reminds me: now that I have a wheel, I no longer have an excuse to not at least give RBR a shot (aside from still learning/acclimating to Dirt Rally with it).

Yeah Dirt Rally is what made me finally uninstall RSRBR. RBR still has its place, but it's very much the old school of sim racing and it's so nice to have a fresh new sim.

RWD cars are fun https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3do8r5XnTxU Anyway, I hope to see them eventually add some of the older cars like the Celica: RX-7: ...or even 240RS: I dunno what the plans are for DLC or whatever but it'd be nice if they keep bringing new content to this game instead of just jumping right into making a sequel.

Agreed though, really hope they use the interim time to prepare for another set of content on the Dirt Rally platform whether it comes free or as DLC (or a bit of both). Guess yesterday's Road Book stated it'd be the last of the year so I guess more details about the future of Dirt Rally remains shrouded (apparently they are having a Christmas special post-patch stream some day though, that might touch on it because hopefully they don't just spend an hour+ on just looking back).

What he's referring to is how "zoomed out" your view is, even if the cockpit were invisible. The conventional wisdom with racing sims says to narrow the FOV from its default in most games to reduce the "objects in Independent of the FOV, you can adjust the "seat" position in each car. This doesn't change how zoomed in or out the world itself looks, but you can slide your fake seat forward so that you are closer to the windscreen and see less of the interior. Thanks for pointing this out. I must have instinctively maxed out the FOV when I first started the game up because years of cyber dogfighting in BF109s has made forget that actually seeing what's in front of you is a thing. It's funny I'm doing this after completely dialing in the Stratos/E30 to my exact winding path preferences.

I tried setting the FoV using the calculator and method here, and modifying the .xml files is doing jack poo poo, except that if I force eyefinity to 3x1 as it states there it squishes my hud in the middle of the screen; but the FoV is not changing. Are you guys chaning via the ingame slider? Tried setting that to 0.7 and at least it did something, but I have no idea what that translates to in angles.

Do you have tripple monitors? If you're using a single why are you messing with eyefinity?

Found the slider now, but have no idea what "0.7" means so I thought I'd ask what you guys were using, if you were changing it at all. vv

In use the ingame slider for single monitor FOV adjustment, and then move the cockpit around till it's comfortable. I eyeballed mine since I set my FOV slightly higher than the calculators say I should be on a single display.

I decided I should get my last promotion (Elite to Masters) by getting good at cars, so I will do it on the Lancia 037. ... why did they make this thing, and who did actually drive it on a real road. I usually do better on asphalt and terrible on gravel, with this I died in Germany and did not that bad in Finland, which is usually my most hated event. This car will murder me and I will love every second of it.

Interesting thing, there's going to be a Sebastian Loeb Rally demo out on Thursday on Xbone and PS4. That's a long way from release so clearly Milestone think they have something. E: No you forgot the Road Book. Nothing much major here this week, but a lot of really interesting stuff about the AI. Within the 5 difficulties there are 75 different possible skill levels all based around the fastest developer time. So AI not only have a base level of speed, but the game can also calculate them being better in certain countries and on certain surfaces, as well as how much they're affected by rain and night stages. Its a really interesting read and there's way more going on under the hood than just 'these 3 guys are always on top'. njsykora fucked around with this message at 07:26 on Dec 22, 2015 |
