I fully maintain that nobody in here has lived until they've watched Timelash with Colin Baker and Paul Darrow giving it both barrels over images and sound of Colin Baker and Paul Darrow giving it both barrels. It's amazing.

I liked the guitar stuff too. When it came to getting his second guitar (he has a Yamaha... thing at the start of the series), the buyers were looking at getting a Squier Strat (we don't have any money) but I kept pushing for them to look into an SG. They weren't keen because it didn't have the tremolo arm - which either the script or Peter wanted, can't remember - so I convinced them to stump for the Bigsby arm on it too. I was convinced that the SG was waaay more Peter than a bog-spec Strat, and they just look nicer too:

If you're really close to the material I suppose I can understand how you might not be able to see that your criticism of over-medication comes off equally well as a criticism of all medication.

The damning problem with it is the symptoms shown are ones possible to have with mental illnesses (flickery lights intheir vision, hearing voices, etc) rather than anything exaggerated and outright alien.

I think you'd get waaay more than twice what you paid. Get Capaldi, Jenna, Moffat, and a maybe a few others (though even just those 3 should be plenty, and you don't necessarily what to clutter the guitar with dozens of sigs.), get it certified, and offer it along with a signed script. I'd be shocked if you don't get 5x what the guitar cost that way. I think you'd have more of a problem getting Capaldi to not keep it than you would getting big money for it.

It'd be a different story if it was just a standard prop piece, but there's a well-established tradition of signed guitars going for wild sums.

I would be OK with this only if Moffat leaves with him.

I say this not as a Moffat hater or whatever bullshit you want to put on me, but instead because the show needs a clean break. Smith got that clean break from the RTD Era and it helped him immensely to begin with. Twelve did not, and only in this last season has he really found his footing- and some of it still echos back to the Smith run.

Whoever the next Doctor is deserves a fresh start.

Important: the headline says "Capaldi: This COULD be my last year...", emphasis mine.

To those with long memories I would remind people that he is a fan, so like us he will know (a) that Troughton advised Peter Davison to do only three years and (b) that Davison regretted taking it, in no little part because "three years" in Troughton's day meant 52 episodes a year.

vvv There was an actor who came in saying "well, I've always liked a go at records, maybe I could beat Tom Baker", but through no fault of his own it didn't quite work out that way.... vvv

Would you be my new best friends?

I'd only want to see Moffat go if there is somebody waiting in the wings who I think would do a great job as showrunner (for the first year at least before people start claiming he's literally making GBS threads on a piece of paper and calling it a script) and at the moment the closest thing we have to that is Mark Gatiss, who I don't think has managed to achieve his potential with Doctor Who yet.

As for the actor, I'd love Capaldi to stick around for years, but I've felt that way about pretty much every Doctor and I've learned to just roll with their infuriating desire for variety in their work and avoiding typecasting :argh:

Forktoss
Feb 13, 2012

I'm OK, you're so-so
I probably said the exact same thing when we heard Smith might be leaving, but there's so still much onion to peel with the Twelfth Doctor I can't see him leaving just yet. It's also probably a safe bet that Moffat's successor as showrunner won't be as obvious and universally accepted a choice as he was when he took over from RTD, and as such they might wish to play it safe and keep Capaldi on for the new producer's first year to bridge the gap. I honestly would like that too, if only to keep Peter on for another season.

What sort of poo poo must be going on behind the scenes for every actor to bail after their initial enthusiasm for the role? Doubly so now for Capaldi, who basically lived his whole life waiting for the moment? It can't just be the budget stuff. There's got to be some sort of more messed up thing going on that's sapping the will of the actors to continue.
