I'm not sure on those specific games, but there are a couple types of games. I don't think I've ever heard of 'customizable' being one of the terms, but that sounds like it might work how some living card games work.

But yeah there's normal TCGs/CCGs in which you buy booster packs, build a deck out of your own collection, trade with friends for cards, and spend tons of money buying singles from the card store (in the end, usually the cheapest option, sadly). But there's also living card games, which instead of having booster packs, you buy the set, and build your deck out of the cards in the set. This is how I think Netrunner works, and the current Star Wars card game, at least last I checked. Then there are games like Dominion, where the cards are part of the game, and you build a deck IN the game itself, giving itself the moniker of 'deckbuilding game' which are pretty awesome, but also completely different from TCGs and living card games.

I can easily answer that; CCGs and TCGs are basically the same thing. Any card game that has a format built around collecting cards from booster packs. In fact, Pokemon is probably the only game to ever use the "TCG" moniker, because they wanted to encourage trading since that was... a tenant of the Pokemon game design.

I'm not super familiar with either Star Trek games (and didn't click those links yet), but I think at least one of them was made by Decipher, who also made the Star Wars CCG I played when I was younger.

So, definitely options, but seeing as I'm not much of a Star Trek fan, not high up on the list!

One of them is actually the Star Wars CCG but the poster hosed it up

Living Card Games are a Fantasy Flight Games invention. They work like a CCG except the packs aren't randomised. They come in themed groups and have a pre-set card list in each one. That way you know exactly what you're buying and everyone can balance their games according to what packs they own. IIRC the first LCG was Call of Cthulhu though that has now finished and is no longer "living". Netrunner and Lord of the Rings: The Card Game are the two big popular ones right now. FFG has since extended the model into miniatures with X-Wing Miniatures Game

Deck Builders are different again. They're self contained card games in which everyone competes to build the best deck and win whatever the game's pre-determined victory condition is. Popular ones are Dominion, Thunderstone, Ascension and Valley of the Kings

Eminent Domain is a pretty cool deck-builder, though you'll want to play it with the Escalation expansion for extra meatiness.

Part 4

In which the end is upon us.

So! As an aside, I've finally updated the Suggestions GeekList with all the recent suggestions, and also tossed on a couple things I (and Ax) plan to do in the future so I'll remember them. Will probably just add more as I remember things.

That said, a discussion came up in my group about really wanting to do Risk Legacy. But due to the nature of the game... we'd basically need, not just the components but the way they are distributed by the game. So if anyone has an unused copy or the like, or knows enough about the game to recreate it accurately, that would be interesting. Alternately I could look into purchasing and scanning it in myself, but I understand it's not cheap, so.

Just a thought!

Yeah, I noticed that, but it didn't do him much good anyway, and in his defense, he was super loving tired; we went on longer than we had intended to, by a good hour.

I added you on Skype; I don't use Steam messaging much at all, but if you can hop on some time just to confirm some stuff, that'd be great. And definitely pick up TTS when you can, if you haven't yet! It's been going on and off sale pretty regularly.

Not sure what you mean? We each only used a room once, we kept track of it on the side. That's why the thing to keep track of it was there in the first place...?

Anyway!

We're planning a stupid thing sometime in the future, but we need some components I haven't been able to find anywhere online; if anyone has access to American title deeds for Monopoly: The Mega Edition and would be willing to scan them or even send them to me temporarily to scan them, get in touch with me by PM or posting some other contact info here!

It's one use by player.

Except during the haunt phase, where the traitor can use each of the tiles as many times as they want, as long as their current value is under their starting value. Don't ask me why, but yep.

They are, yes. But it's still a silly rule since even though the stats are right there, it doens't negate the fact you have to keep checking up on them.

I'd have a tough time finding it, but I do remember reading it. I think it might have only been in one specific haunt, where the traitor really relied on having actual decent stats. That said, I'm not reading through the fifty or so haunts again to double check if I was right or wrong.

Ahhhh... just how middling are we talking? I could accept one person's video being 30 FPS, but I wouldn't cut to it as frequently... but if the video quality is really bad, maybe not so much? Again, it depends...

On that topic, I've got some test footage going that looks like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bZJOZNQb6BU (might still be processing when you read this)

However, that's about 1,5 GB per minute (using Lagarith at 1280x720 and 60 FPS), which given a maximum hard drive space of 450 GB (of which I currently have 14 GB free) is going to be kind of tricky. I can probably free up a lot of space by just moving all my other Steam games and ROMs to my external hard drive, but even then I'm not going to get a whole lot of time in total. So either cutting quality or cutting FPS would be a big help.

Depending on your software too, you can sometimes compress/encode videos as you record them. If your computer / gpu can handle that, it'll often mean that you're down to a few gigs an hour.

But, I'm having a bit of trouble actually finding your steam account.

Could anyone that's still not contacted just send me a friend request and a message on steam? http://steamcommunity.com/id/Subrideo/

Being somewhat active on Skype is pretty important too, if you're unreachable there it'll be pretty hard to arrange things.

Yeah, I've been needing to make up a guide for recording, but I've been lazy and busy.

That said, uploading to something to YouTube really isn't gonna give me a great idea of how the video was actually prepared, since it goes through all YouTube's stuff.

That said, definitely get onto Skype, that's a much better place to discuss this stuff.

As another aside, at the moment I'm not sure if I'm going to have an update on Friday. Haven't had a chance to host another recording session, and people are busy for the holidays. Still trying different things, but not aiming to stress myself and others out.

I can then be lazy and pretend to be busy and just link them to your amazing tutorial.
