Definitely not a Homer Simpson-level simpleton. Barney was just lazy, really. In both cases they weren't supposed to be manchildren or anything like that; just a couple of regular guys trying to get by. If they wanted to go the "large child shaped like a man" route Marge and Homer Simpson would have been a better choice. Yeah in the show Wilma and Betty were generally portrayed as the mature voice of reason or would clean up the messes Fred made but it wasn't like Fred was a complete twit.

I'm teaching a brief unit on social media in a college communications class in a few weeks. The main piece of advice I'm giving them is to not post whatever it is if the caption could be "lol so true" or if they'd defend it by saying "god, it's just a joke, u don't have 2b so serious."

Day 1 is a discussion of personal social media use as it relates to employability, day 2 is a discussion of institutional/corporate social media policy. These are basically slow pitches to occupy class time while they're working on an assignment. Once they hand in the assignment we go back to the main course material, which at that point is resumes and cover letters and stuff.

In all seriousness, I can see (to a very limited extent) why the person is against imprisonment; it's obviously an incredibly lovely experience, and one that society seems to be perpetually willfully ignorant to. That being said, though, I don't see how anyone would seriously think that defending a convicted offender against children is the hill they want to die on.
