I only read the book once, 10 years ago. I listened to the IDEOTV episode today at work and I had forgotten the extent of that book's insanity. I was remembering stuff about it as they were mentioning it and just having a blast recalling all the crazy moments.

I think the episode failed because I kinda want to read it now, because it sounds buck-wild. I get the feeling they skipped talking about a whole third of the book because they didn't have enough time to cover it all.

Snow Crash is basically the book equivalent of a good bad action movie from the 80's, complete with 'biting satirical commentary', dumb one liners, and The Baddest Motherfucker In The World. As they said in the podcast, I first read it when I was like 16; you definitely have to be in a particular dumb mindset to really appreciate the... nuances... of Stephenson's weird cavalier writing style. (the Baroque Cycle books are loving impenetrable)

Snow Crash is fantastic; it's deliberately crazy-stupid ("Hiro Protagonist"! Mafia pizza!) and sincerely cyberpunk-cool at the same time. I can't fathom why these guys decided to do an episode on it.

(hell no i'm not listening to it, why would i spend an hour going out of my way to irritate myself)

It's really bad actually. Long-rear end boring diatribes about faux-philosophy (nerd worship) in between cringe worthy "cool" action

Hearing an opinion that you don't hold shouldn't automatically irritate you. I like Snow Crash, it's dumb fun, but I can also recognize it has a lot of faults, too. And that's OK, I can like things I don't think are perfect, and am fine with other people not liking them.

If it makes you feel better they bring up the counterargument that the book is mainly satire and intentionally stupid, they just don't personally agree with it.

You know the guy in Sideways that's a big snob about merlot? I think Snow Crash is that for a lot of heavy readers, since it's not especially well written, but it's manic, gonzo world makes it popular with more casual readers less concerned with the quality of the prose itself.

I guess count me in to the 'I like Snow Crash, even if it's not a literary masterpiece' party, since I also read Snow Crash first when I was like 14, and thought it was so cool and that the satire was great, but now I just see it as an enjoyable kind of garbage, like Tango & Cash. If you don't like being taken on an inexplicable and confusing journey, what are you doing in the F+ thread?

Also, it's okay to like a book, and also like a podcast that makes fun of that book.

The stupidest part about the puffynips file there is that it's not even a mod. The file is just a set of preset values you would load into another mod/tool Bodyslide. There is a level-of-nipple-puffiness slider in Bodyslide out of the box, meaning you can basically re-create the thing he uploaded simply by moving one slider all the way to the right.

Speaking of which, I wonder how No Mutants Allowed is holding up nowadays. Might be too grognard-y to mine any humor out of, but I might poke around and see if there's something worthwhile.

Those guys are as retarded as ever:
"I honestly, gave my best to experience this game to the fullest. So after 70 hours of gameplay, solving every quest in the game, except the repeatable ones, I am left out there in the open with nothing smart to do."
yeah, because Fallout 1/2 were just exxploding with possibilities once you completed all quests!

He even says it's a fun game but because it's not as ridiculously huge as the previous games it's poo poo, I guess? I don't know, I haven't played it yet. I'm sure it's fine. I don't even know what these people consider a good game at this point. Everything that's not indie and retro is terrible to these people as far as I can tell.

I'm actually kind of annoyed with how huge games are getting. I love Witcher 3 but I still haven't finished it because it's so loving huge and I'm an adult now.

That's what bugs me about NMA. I agree with them enough that, if they recommended a recent game, I would really take that into consideration. Age lets Fallouts 1 and 2 down more than anything, and 4 deviates way too much from what I liked about 3 and New Vegas, much of which is probably stuff they like. If there's a game that makes them happy, I want in.

But no, they're so insular that they apparently ban people for daring to say they prefer one of the two Fallouts that they DO like. They'll never be happy.

Which means it doesn't change the texture at all, and you have these giant weird protrusions AROUND the areola that look nothing like actual puffy nipples and more like tumors. Never change, Fallout and Skyrim mods. Never change.
