You effectively have to know all the rules of being a tenant and sometimes deal with terrible landlords who for example try to tell you pets are not allowed. In a certain apartment in Oakville students were not allowed to rent, which I thought was ridiculous... just one step away from "No Blacks allowed"

I have frequently used the refrain that we are the Russia of North America, but frankly even Russia has a more diversified economy and skilled labor force than we do.

It's pretty terrifying to be living in a country worse than Russia in many ways, kept afloat economically only because of our proximity to America. Perhaps it is that proximity that has gotten us into this mess, that we've grown soft in the post-colonial era and come to expect Uncle Sam to support us when we gently caress up badly enough? There doesn't seem to be a strong desire in Canada, collectively, to solve things independently anymore. We just sell what we have left to the neighbors and hope it keeps us warm for another winter.

Shall we discuss that Russia has a more diversified and capable heavy industry sector? Which the USA buys all their rockets from? That they beat us bloody on volume of raw material exports? That they have a vastly more competitive telecoms industry? Notice how their economy isn't nearly 40% Real Estate and Oil.

It's a post-apocalyptic gang-run frozen hellhole, which despite that still has a more diversified economy than Canada. This should make your blood run cold, but instead you two prefer to toss out a lol Russia and shrug off reality.

Let's check again next year when Russia's economy collapses due to ~80% of their exports being energy+metals. It will probably be ~more diversfied~ oh and also Russia' GDP will likely drop below Canada's, for a country with 4 times the population and crippling social problems. But tell us more about all the other ways that Russia is a better country than Canada.

Turns out a country can have a diversified economy in comparison to ours and still be a failed-state basket case socially. It's like they're entirely separate metrics, who knew? Apparently not you retards. :downs:

It would be pretty silly if the landlord can't ask you to leave after the contract period is over with proper notice. Google says valid reasons include family/friends needing to move in and repurposing the house. Anyways its not like it would be comfortable staying somewhere when you are no longer welcomed.

Yeah sure they're separate metrics, and they will continue to be until around 1-2 years from now, which is when Russia's reserve fund will be depleted, leaving them unable to cover their deficit (6-7% of GDP). This won't happen in Canada because natural resources are not anywhere near 80% of the country's exports, unlike in Russia. Although if you want to go ahead and argue that the Canadian economy's recent malaise is anything near as bad as is Russia's, well, you're more than welcome.

Jokes aside, they are bad and only capable of beating up on failed states like Ukraine and Syria. The only reason anyone should consider them more than a regional power is because of their poorly maintained nuclear arsenal.

That aside, though, the Russian economy is in awful shape and its collapse will probably be even worse than Canada's.

http://business.financialpost.com/entrepreneur/canadian-tech-startups-are-definitely-feeling-a-chill-but-should-they-brace-for-winter

quote:

Dan Martell’s forecast is slightly darker. Martell, a Moncton, N.B.-based entrepreneur, said during the summer he began to see signs of snow and ice. On Aug. 10 he tweeted: “Winter has begun in startup land. Time to get lean and mean and focus on staying alive.”

Martell’s post was partly influenced by the flux that was affecting some big tech players. Twitter had just switched CEOs, and Zirtual, the on-demand personal assistant company, suddenly suspended operations and laid-off more than 400 employees. Zirtual later accepted a buyout offer from Startups.co. (Last February, Startups.co acquired Martell’s most recent startup, Clarity.fm).

Martell’s tech sector forecast has improved since then, but only slightly. “Recent IPO’s have shown that we might be better (off) than I thought, but (I) still believe something’s going to happen over the next six months,” he said in an email.

Danielle Morrill’s San Francisco-based startup, Mattermark, tracks investment funding. Recent data from the company already shows evidence of a “VC Slowdown.”

“We’ve seen a pretty dramatic drop off both in (seed) dollars and deal volume,” Morrill said in an interview. “That might be an early indicator that the earliest stage is drying up.”

Mattermark’s research shows series A, B, and C funding was fairly stable in 2015. Seed deals, however, declined in both quantity and size. Overall, the volume of seed deals in 2015 was down 36 per cent from 2014. The situation was particularly bad in the fourth quarter. In November, the volume of seed deals was down 47 per cent from a year earlier, to 42 from 79 — the lowest in the past two years.

November also saw a 41 per cent drop in the amount of seed capital deployed — down to $81.5 million from $137 million in November 2014. Again, a two-year low.

Those figures all pertain to the U.S. market, but Morrill said the U.S. is a bellwether for what will happen in other areas, including Canada.

~startups~ are definitely getting creamed right now. oh well i'm sorry for your loss dumb fucks :qq:

http://www.macleans.ca/economy/money-economy/no-growth-gdp-may-spur-bank-of-canada-to-cut-interest-rates/

quote:

Canada’s economy didn’t grow in October, and that has analysts wondering if the central bank could be eyeing another cut to its key lending rate.

Statistics Canada data released Wednesday showed Canada’s economy was stable overall in October as gains in the resource sector helped offset declines in factory production and consumer spending.

CIBC Capital Markets economist Nick Exarhos said the weak results undercut expectations that the Canadian economy had rebounded in October after shrinking in September.

Without the increase in the mining sector, the country would have seen another economic contraction after September’s 0.5 per cent annualized decline, Exarhos said in a brief commentary.

He said the new GDP figures put the country on track for zero growth in the fourth quarter and could signal another interest rate cut from the Bank of Canada if things don’t improve.

In its most recent monetary policy report, in October, the central bank had predicted growth of 1.5 per cent in the last three months of the year.

Statistics Canada said Canada’s gross domestic product — a broad measure of the economy — was flat overall in October.

Commodity-based industries including mining, quarrying and oil and gas extraction posted slight gains after major declines in September, and the public sector grew slightly.

That was offset by declines in manufacturing, retail trade and utilities. Spending on natural gas and electricity also fell as much of the country experienced mild weather in the weeks before Halloween.

TD economist Brian DePratto wrote in a research note that the Canadian economy should rebound towards modest growth in 2016, but that projection rests on rising demand for Canadian exports — and that growth in demand is currently nowhere to be found.

“As a result, the risks are skewed to the downside and we cannot rule out further easing should we see continued material disappointment in Canadian economic growth,” he said.

Mining, quarrying, and oil and gas extraction rebounded in October, rising 0.7 per cent after falling 4.7 per cent in September. The use of non-conventional sources of oil, such as the Alberta oilsands, rose 4.5 per cent after a 10.6 per cent decrease in the previous month.

The finance and insurance sector declined for a third consecutive month, falling 0.1 per cent despite a gains in financial investment services.

Statistics Canada also released data showing retail sales posted a small increase of 0.1 per cent in October, although sales actually fell by 0.3 per cent in terms of volume.

Ontario and Quebec posted higher sales in the month, while retail receipts in British Columbia, Alberta and Nova Scotia declined. Alberta, which has been hit hard by the plummeting price of oil, saw its retail sales fall for the third month in a row.

BMO chief economist Douglas Porter said retail sales were a wet blanket, and provided the latest evidence that 2015 was a bad year for the Canadian economy.

In a research note, Porter described Canada’s 12 months of economic challenges to the tune of “The 12 Days of Christmas,” including the five straight months of negative GDP, three fiscal updates, two surprise rate cuts and a loonie in a swan dive.

ahahahahaha

Vancouver's sfh market is losing its loving mind right now. I can't wait until rates are cut again.
