What does this game lack in terms of an action rpg?

The game feels pretty unfinished and I thought that was obvious to everyone. Especially when it comes to odd moments in the main plot where you do things like walk straight out of the Duke's prison. Mechanically the game is great, there just isn't enough content and the difficulty isn't paced very well either. I feel like you reach a point far to early where there's basically no danger, and that means there's much less reason to make full use of your skills other than personal amusement.

BBI fixed a lot of what I'm complaining about, but new people aren't going to start there.

Mostly I just feel like unless you really fall in love with the mechanics and the pawn system, you're not going to want to play the game. I tried to get two of my buddies to play it but they both quit halfway through calling it a generic hack-and-slash. I need new buddies

Do any -Dangoons- have the link to the gif or webm where a pawn jumps off a bridge in its hurry to catch up with the player, and then says "what a gaffe!" before being sent back to its home realm? I've been cracking up about it for months but don't have the link anymore.

Oh, yeah that's fair; everything from getting to Grand Soren to fighting Grigori is definitely horrible paced. I disagree with the difficulty aspect though; on my first playthrough I found it moderately challenging throughout, with enough enemies that can take you out fairly quickly from high HP to warrant manual saving.

As for content, there is a good amount in the game, but the issue there is it's pretty much entire in side quests, and side quests work really stupidly in this game, what with how you have to traipse across Gransys each time you advance the plot if you don't know where to go. If/when I make the OP for a new thread, I think I'll actually include a spoiler-light guide on what side quests are available at what times.

But overall, I find the combat in this game so fun that all the flaws in the world can't keep the game from being a ton of fun in spite of its flaws. I just don't get how anyone could find it boring, what with all the options they give you (plus being one of the few games to have good ranged and mage combat).

It's a game that I feel like is much greater than the sum of its parts. There are so many issues with it that are so easy to see, and lots of things that aren't necessarily "issues" but just things I don't like, but somehow when you put it all together I kind of stop caring and have a ton of fun.

The fact that you can "just walk out of prison" fits perfectly into everything that makes this game so great and special. Its combat and leveling/vocation mechanics blend into something that's drat near perfect. Its characters and story (excluding Grigori) are utterly stupid, but those are not why you play the game and the weirdness in some parts of it lend it an aura of self-awareness, which I like.

Games like Dragon Age, Baldurs Gate and especially Planescape Torment have great stories and characters, but the surrounding mechanics are very boring and clunky. Skyrim, in my opinion, is just simply okay in all of these aspects, so it's never really dull but also rarely exciting. Compare fighting a dragon in both games.

So I just bought this for the 360 since I can't wait 20 something days to play the PC version I bought from Green Man for Steam. I added myself to the 360 goon list. Will it make the game easier if I get Goon Pawns to help when I first play the game?

Sure. Just know that if you hire any pawns beyond your level you will basically destroy any challenge the game has to offer.

Same.

God drat, this is a good game. I've probably put nearly two hundred hours into this thing. In my defense, it's time spent over multiple years - playing in bits and bobs as I find time. The only other non-MMO to even come close is Skyrim. I've bought this game five times now, goddamnit, and this PC version makes number six. Pawn Rob Zombie will ride again.

January 16th will be a fine day.

Much easier. But like gibbed said, it'll neuter the challenge quite a lot which is part of the game's appeal. Also, taking overleveled pawns places a penalty on how much EXP/DCP you earn, up to 25% depending on how far beyond your level they are (I think it's 1%/lvl up to 25 levels above you), and it applies per pawn. Meaning filling your party with two hired lvl200 goons results in earning 56.25% of regular experience.

Sure! My GT is Pacouranga . I'll be sure to pop on and add you in a bit. The ability to rent and release pawns is unlocked right after you've made your own, after a quick quest at the Encampment.

Also, an empty party slot will kick in an extra 25% exp and mostly offset the penalty you'd take for having an overleveled hire. Would definitely recommend just hiring one goonpawn at a time unless you don't give a poo poo about Them Gains.

I added you and Paco. And a few high level Goon Pawns. Not sure how abundant money is, so I figured I could use a high level to do some of those notice board quests to get some money.

Also is there a way to change my Arisens face? He has what must be the default one eye closed and he just looks so dumb.

You did a super job wrapping things up! And I'm not just saying that because I have to!
Hair dressers can change some cosmetic features but I don't remember if they can do eyes. If not there's a one-time face changer item that's sold by the guy near the pawn-summoning stone in the encampment. To use it you have to quit the game, and the option to rebuild your character is somewhere in the main menu.

There's a one time one and then there's one that makes it a permanent main menu option. It's like 10000 rift crystals. The dude who sells them shows up in the encampment after you make it to gran soren.

The permanent one shows up when you get to the postgame so you're mostly stuck with 1 appearance change until then. Not sure if the dark arisen content changed that at all.
