Does insurance cover bushfires? Seems like a given but I know that after 2011 a lot of insurance companies will no longer insure if your house for flood if you're anywhere near a potential floodzone.

freebooter posted:Does insurance cover bushfires? http://www.propertyobserver.com.au/forward-planning/investment-strategy/property-news-and-insights/23365-fire-safety-levys.html In NSW you pay a levy (on your insurance policy) that supposedly goes towards paying for emergency services. The insurance commpanies make you pay through the nose if you try and insure a property in a known bushfire area. Which discorages people paying for insurance at all....... http://www.abc.net.au/news/2015-12-24/australian-leaders-wish-voters-a-happy-holiday-period/7052758 In his Xmas message Malformed Turdball attempted to cash in on some of that 25 Billion a year boondoggle called defence expenditure by wishing our troops overseas some Xmas goodwill. Personally I find that if I am experiencing feelings of goodwill to others I don't choose to send them to Middle Eastern hell holes or to overfly sensative parts of the South China Sea Little sickens me more than politicians ruthlessly exploiting the men and women of the defence forces in this way (And one of these things is exploiting vulnerable assylum seekers by putting them in prison camps for shallow political gain)..

http://m.smh.com.au/national/pancake-parlour-employees-win-penalty-rates-for-late-nights-weekends-20150921-gjrwmn.html This dude is me (tldr; work for Pancake Parlour, they were on an old WorkChoices era contract with no penalty rates and I took them to Fair Work to force them to update it across the whole franchise). The article and the quote make it seem like they rolled over a lot easier than they did, they challenged it at every step and it was a lot of work. It will be really disappointing if this goes through and we lose what we worked for.

Frogfingers posted:Pancake Parlour is the only thing keeping Scientology Australia afloat so exploiting people is pretty old hat for them. It runs a lot deeper than just the fact their old ECA/contract was meant to have expired (following the Fair Work hearing we are now on the Industry Award), even the contract they were running wasn't being fulfilled to a tee. It actually had a provision for penalty rates on weekends, with the caveat being that it was only paid when the staff member didn't "request" a weekend shift. Except, upon being hired we were given a sheet which we were told to sign under the heading "Roster Requests" that they could use as evidence that we "requested" the shift. So, they could point to their contract and say they paid penalty rates while having a loophole to never in fact need to do so.
