Rose works better anyway, just as the whole series of events spinning on one last little act of Bad Wolf to give the Doctor a chance to save Gallifrey.

They're both in separate space ships quite a distance away from each other and only have an audio link, so she modulates her voice so that it sounds different and he won't recognise it later.

I'm interested to see how they do it in Eight's audio that she guests in though. Surely they're going to have to go the amnesia route sooner or later, I mean come on, it's Eight.

Lots of good words.

This is all true, I guess I didn't quite explain myself right. I don't mean that River's the worst person in the world or even necessarily a "bad" person by the latter parts of her life, just that she has a very different way of approaching things to the Doctor. Like I said, I don't think it's out of character to have her getting thrown into doctory adventures and righting wrongs as she goes, I just think it's less interesting when it's a story that could have happened to the Doctor as opposed to something she gets into due to being River and ends up solving through methods the Doctor wouldn't approve of. The Christmas special was just an excellent example of what I mean: she was actively hired to get the diamond, she was prepared to murder people to get it and it's ambiguous what she was planning on doing with it and the money. The Doctor version of that story just doesn't exist because he wouldn't go for the diamond in the first place. I guess it's a case of active vs passive maybe? The Doctor goes wandering around the universe and stumbles into trouble, River seems to actively go seeking it out.

In any case, there is indeed a lot of time that Big Finish can fill in and cover, and hopefully they'll get to cover a wide variety of scenarios.

I'm surprised we never saw when River learned the Doctor's name. Given how Moffat likes to tie things up, even sometimes at the expense of having to twist it to get it to fit, we never actually saw River learning his name.

"There's only one reason I would ever tell anyone my name. There's only one time I could..."

I'm actually kinda glad that every thing that's ever been hinted at on screen hasn't actually gotten time devoted to explaining it, I just found it surprising.

He SAID he was going to tell her his name, and then said "Look into my eyes". He didn't actually tell her.

Which is actually pretty meta - the only reason to say "I'm going to tell you my name" is only for the audience fake-out.

Let's Kill Hitler is far from great, but it's a perfectly watchable farce with an emotional ending that more or less works. It's quite like the most recent Christmas special, actually, just worse.

It does have my absolute favorite River-related line, though, where she's like, "Maybe I'll just make myself a bit younger every couple of years to mess with people."

I posted my Santa gift today as I've been away for xmas... hopefully it arrives soon!

I put a few things up on my twitter last night which didn't really get a close up - was amazed the brandy bottle didn't get seen in any depth given it was scripted and there was lots of back and forth over it.

Most of the SNM set was a new build / location but the archway elements may have been reused in one of the side tunnels. They layout was broadly similar, though, but that's a consequence of having a studio with a specific size and getting curving corridors inside it that you can't see the end of.

A mix of Big Finish discussion, classical episode discussion, revival episode discussion, and book discussion, along with any random chatter that comes up. Jerusalem and I will write reviews, we’ll speculate on the next series, and someone will post 70’s porno Colin Baker at some point.

I'm probably going to mix them with the audio books from the humble bundle from now on. It just wouldn't feel like Doctor Who anymore if every episode ended up being amazing.
