The only medium where they would be successful at making EU TR8R material would be comic strips and the Internet community already has that covered.

Let me just be real clear: When you look at George Lucas, you are looking at a guy who wanted to make a 30's-40's serial/Kurosawa homage, often with exact shot sequences directly stolen from several other movies (much of R2-D2 and C3PO, and almost the entire trench run sequence, for example). Except he started with insane garbled crap that several other people had to work into a functional script. In the director's chair, he famously provided almost no coherent direction, spawning the catchphrase "Faster, more intense." While he had hit on something big with the idea of Star Wars, it was by necessity forged into something workable by his many associates. When given total control under the demonstrably false pretense that he was the singular mastermind of Star Wars, he churned out three fantasy films that are so bad that they fail even on basic technical and storytelling aspects. The only reason they aren't treated in the same way, for example, as M. Night Shyalaman's Avatar abortion--which fails in similar ways and is treated with universal scorn--is because the one thing George Lucas was great at was getting really aggressive on branding. Star Wars is also revolutionary for being a movie-turned-business juggernaut, and ushered in a new era of film marketing. The reason you have a Big lovely EU, millions of metric tons of toys, and several video games per year (at least half of which are horrible) is all George. There is almost no company he won't do cross-promotion with. He has become ever-more aloof and disconnected since becoming a billionaire. He started as a rebellious young filmmaker with ideas who revolutionized special effects and ushered in a new age in Hollywood filmmaking. He became Charles Foster Kane. He compares retirement and the sale of his IP to "white slavery," for god's sake.

Still love that FFG said "Hey there's no real corvette class for the empire, and we'd like to make an X-wang epic ship to sell for the game," so they literally invented a new one for the board game with LFL's approval. I like that it look like the baby of a TIE interceptor and a star destroyer (and still manages to be sorta cool.)

Both the Carrack Cruiser and Lancer Frigate are close in size the rebel's corvette and have been in (EU) cannon forever. FFG obviously don't have any compunction drawing on EU ship designs for X-Wing so I'm guessing the real explanation is that they thought these ships looked goofy and though slapping TIE wings on a tiny star destroyer would be better. Yeah fair, I forgot some of the deep cuts from the TIE Fighter games. I think I was just remembering FFG's official reasoning, which I guess was a diplomatic mistruth to avoid saying "yeah there ARE imperial EU light cap ships, but they look like weird dildo tube garbage dirt so gently caress that."

I read the Star Wars Saga Edition ship book, and that doofy ring ship that Obi Wan had in episode 2 had all of the survival supplies in the ring. That you couldn't land on a planet with. The only time you would ever need them you wouldn't even have access to them.
