Allarion posted:If I remember right, the OVA didn't cover the entire player session, so it made up its own ending, so the TV version sort of tries to replace the last part of it, awkwardly jumping in the middle. I assume the new protagonist was a new player or someone re-rolling. The new guy is introduced as the protagonist after a ten year timeskip, and he quickly gains his own party. He endeared himself to me pretty quickly when he did this. Overall the new cast are fun characters so far, their dwarf is great. The TV series's first eight episodes jump in at episode eight of the OVA at Shiris and Orson's introduction, and changes things so that there's been a four or five year timeskip between episode 7 and 8. Or was it 6 and 7. Whatever, it's when Ashram takes over as the villain in the OVA. Parn is post-character development by the time the TV series starts and there's a bigger focus on Orson and Shiris as a result, as well as changing how Orson's berserker abilities work to give him more of a character arc. It's basically a drawn out version of the Shooting Star arc of the OVA, and I think they handled it pretty well. Overall it makes more sense if you've watched the OVA, but I think they do a decent enough job at making it so that you can jump in at the TV series, although there's no reason to not watch the OVA first. Ashram is a much better villain in the TV series, he's got this weird charisma to him about how dead-set he is on becoming a legendary hero, to the point where he manages to talk a good-aligned priest of a war god into backing him up because he thinks he can achieve it. It makes him a much more interesting villain than his OVA personality.

I don't think it's voiced, but I might've accidentally flipped something in the options? The game is actually really bad about controllers, if you have one plugged in then it fixes the mouse to the center of the screen, but the mouse can actually only give inputs when a controller is plugged in, so the cursor just gets fixed to whatever option is closest to the center of the screen. This persists even if you tick the option that disables mouse and keyboard controls, so it just becomes impossible to do anything and you have to restart the game.

I'll keep that in mind next time. Yes_Cantaloupe posted:At some point I'll watch the old Lodoss War OVAs. They look neat. They're the purest DnD fantasy experience you can possibly get. I prefer the second half of the series to the first half, and it kind of takes until episode 7 or 8 for the show to get an animation budget. The lineart remains very high detail, but the actual animation is pretty low until Orson and Sheris's introductions save for the first episode.

Lethal Operation Rei-hen... is pretty cool! It's like a little shmup with added rpg elements in the form of items and such, with mechanic that lets you either fire fixed in one direction or unlock your fire and shoot in the opposite direction, and from the two levels I played it has both regular side-scrolling shmup levels, and more open, slower, kinda Bangai-O-ish ones. It's also got a Devil May Cry rating system for each level based on time, score, chains and such. It's neat. I wouldn't mind seeing a translated version released on Steam.
