They have it seems. IIRC, the last update to WP10 was also the last update to Windows10.

Parallel releases are going to be a thing of the future.

Yes, this is true for the WaaS plan. There are some exceptions for critical firmware, but the OS goes it when we push.

What makes this time different than the last several times Microsoft people have made this claim, and what is new/changed basis for your confidence compared to the prior times Microsoft people have confidently claimed this would be happening but it didn't?

Maybe because they are not selling with any carrier partners and it's acting like a unlocked devices like an Opo or an international device. Are any WP10 devices being sold in carrier stores?

I can also walk into any AT&T store in the Grand Rapids area and buy a 950 if I wanted to.

Ok so only AT&T, which has always been the most open to letting people on without too much hassle. I'm guessing the reason they can push the OS themselves is because they made an agreement with AT&T but that will also likely mean WP10 devices will only be sold in AT&T stores (and maybe some MVNO and possibly TMo) going forward.

from what I understand, Microsoft separated and siloed the radio stack (the part of the OS that interactions with the cellular radios), which is what carriers felt my theoretically get borked in an update and cause issues with network. The radio stack is siloed from the rest of the OS so OS updates which do not affect the radio stack go through without carrier approval. Things that affect the radio stack (basically firmware updates) still need to go through carrier testing and approval. Hence why the most recent 950/xl firmware update is going through carrier approval but the previous OS update did not.

Microsoft should probably invest in a communications department to explain stuff to their customers. Pretty much everything about Windows Mobile 10 since release has been cluttered and confusion.

As far as I know if the carrier didn't agree, they didn't ship the phone. As for unbranded devices, it's always been this way. As for ATT, they agreed, and they have publically confirmed this also.

Is anyone having problems with contact sync with Facebook?

Pretty much everyday the app syncs my contacts which appears to mean removing huge amounts of people then re-adding them. I'm guessing this is a bug and not just how Facebook want their sync to work. I tried turning off sync but it just turned it on again ...

I've got a 950XL, it always worked fine on my 8.1 phones

Seems to work OK for me, but then that is the only thing the Facebook app appears to do correctly no my phone so it is in itself surprising. The Facebook app is really a bit embarrassing. It has a reasonable set of functionality (as noted, this platform-specific syncing works for me), but it is really sort of glitchy in all things. I can't seem to share photos to Facebook using the normal sharing button, I get the dialog to write the post and all, and it seems to send, but nothing ever shows up on Facebook.

I used probably about 500mb of data connection uploading the same 4k video 3 times because it seems to do this in the background.

Tried to upload and it just closed the program so I assumed it had failed, tried twice more, then gave up. Went out for lunch (away from wifi) and came back to find out all three had uploaded whilst I was out ...

Uploading from inside the app seems to give a progress bar but not if I use the OS share button.

Why can't Microsoft make phones with a high as quality as the Band2? I really hope they do make a x86 Surface Phone and it's actually good. :smith:

Is MS actually planning on doing anything with the Band? I haven't seen a second of marketing, or any mentions of it anywhere at all other than product announcements and the occasional person in an online MS discussion space talking about how great it is.

Is there any restriction with the second SIM in the 950? I bought and activated $25 worth of a Bell reseller and neither the Bell or Virgin profiles would allow me to get on the network.

Depends where you live. I shaved like 200$ off my 950xl by buying from a grey importer and I live in aus.

It does if you don't do a backup in the app ahead of time.

Someone in this thread was mentioning Cortana disappearing, correct? Is the only current fix to factory reset or try to upgrade to a new build (and thus void the warranty?) I still can't get any photos to upload to OneDrive, and need to return this phone by the end of the week, but of course the charger they provide isn't the detachable kind for phone -> computer connections. This whole experience has been such a frustration.

I was looking at expansys but they've got a big disclaimer about how their stock might be international and that spooked me a touch. I don't know what the differences might be between the official unlocked 950 and an international unlocked 950.

Normal local ones work fine though.

I bought my 640 directly from Tmobile, it's great. If they don't sell it anymore, the normal LTE version definitely works.

550 or 640. The 535 from what I remember had some touch issues when it came out.

My 535 works flawlessly on that front (on 8.1). Really like it, but I'm not a heavy user (battery lasts four days for me). Basically the music app sucked for local files and I haven't got a single complaint about it otherwise.

Camera can focus at something about an inch away, which is something I really missed in other devices.

Got to look at the price of course, especially if something like the 640 comes abnormally cheap.

Only reason to get the 550 is that it comes windows 10 now or if you need a slightly less bad front facing camera, otherwise the 640 is better hardware wise.

Does anyone have issues copying files from their phone with the included USB-C cable? Transfers to the phone are fine but trying to take screenshots off continually fails. Happens on both my laptop and desktop. Windows on the PC side seems to see the device disconnect and reconnect when the transfers fail.

Can a USB-C A-C cable be defective in only one direction? It doesn't make any sense to me but I'll probably try another cable because poo poo even works over Bluetooth.
