God drat...I used to set up a second player with no one playing to make it easier to beat 150cc. Super Mario Kart might be the game I've played the most ever.

I think they said in the interview earlier that if you play two player it takes some of the obstacles from single player out of the game.

I figured having a second player in 8th at the start might gently caress up the computer's item drops or rubber banding

I used to pick a blank character based on how annoying they were to race against. Bowser with his oscillating fireball was a popular choice.

I was thinking that they were taking the rivals out so that fewer items would be thrown at them, but the wiki says I'm wrong. e: Well, there's the answer.

Player 1 giving up saves them about 5 seconds. Fewer CPUS to gently caress with you. Fewer obstacles on the tracks. Didn't know that this was a thing Edit: They just said that this is why they have 2 players. Edit 2: I like these racing race games thing. The Diddy Kong Racing Race was pretty awesome. ...okay that was a very quick recovery. Like, that exact scenario must have happened at least once before. Dude fixed a potentially terrible thing in less than a second or so after the noise died down in the room. I wonder if we could get an EEG hooked up to these guys as they play: it'd be amazing seeing the results.
