E: I could have sworn Dengeki Daioh was Seinen but apparently that was wrong; makes for sense for this to go in the Shounen thread anyway. Instead, have some actual Seinen releases in the form of three new Kotonoba Drive chapters. Nate RFB fucked around with this message at 19:42 on Dec 11, 2015 |

Do you guys think Akagi should or should not discard the Pei?

Update: I don't think Akagi is going to discard the Pei.

Ringo Roadagain posted:he's gonna discard the pei because he is akagi In my opinion, he's going to hold onto the Pei, because he is Akagi Shigeru, the demon-like Mahjong player who treads the fine line between life and death, and because of that he will favor walking along the razor's edge instead of his current high percentage 7 sided wait.

Washizu is definitely in tenpai. Which means he either has a pei or 1 sou. If he has the 1 sou if Akagi discards the pei he loses. If he has the pei, akagi's second pei will never been drawn because all four are in hands. Akagi has to deal the pei. And it's going to pass. Because washizu doesn't need anyone's help to make a yakuman.

0% chance washizu is NOT in tenpai.

I wonder if Satoru will be aware of the fact that he is still mentally an adult even if he can't remember specific events. It would be weird if he became basically a child in the body of an adult, so I imagine he'll at least retain his intelligence/maturity. Also, after reading some of a couple other comics the same artist wrote I noticed that a bunch of his character looks identical. There was this one child character in one of his other comics that looked identical to child Satoru. I like his art style (I prefer something unique like that to a more "generic" manga/anime look) but it doesn't seem that good at making individuals look distinct. Yumekui Merry has been getting some updates recently after a long while. Always did find that series pretty fun with a likeable cast, though I hardly remember what was happening last.

So naturally I've heard a lot about Ghost in the Shell. Also naturally most of this talk is about the movie or Stand Alone Complex. But I'm an elitist snob who prefers the original most times over adaptations and so I was thinking of starting with the manga by Masamune Shirow. Has anyone here read it? What do you think? I also had a guy elsewhere spell out Shirow's rather prolific legacy to me, citing all his works and their many adaptations. Appleseed sounds really interesting, but I don't think it was finished. That would bug me.

Stand alone complex is better than anything Shirow has ever written. Dude created a neat setting but he is kind of terrible even outside of his proclivity for drawing greasy horse porn. Appleseed was finished, as it was only ever a very short series. The manga is probably better than all of those incoherent cg films, but it is still merely okay.

Yeah, GitS is one of the rare occasions where the adaptation is vastly superior to the original. Shirow has some interesting ideas for a cyberpunk setting, but they are almost exclusively explained in millions of tiny footnotes around pictures of women either wearing skintight body suits or actually just naked later on. The movies are good, but the tv shows are even better.

Uh the original manga is great and better, or at least tied with SaC. The major is more fully covered in it than in SaC, if that's a thing. The sequel manga he wrote is trash.

Found a really neat manga Area 51. It's done in that high-contrast Frank Miller/Sin City style, it's about a lady detective with a gun in a town inhabited by all sorts of creepy ghoulies and aliens and legendary things -- Area 51! It's quite stylish-looking and the action is well-drawn, it flows off the page like it was actually animated!

I honestly prefer pre-creepyfuckedupshit Wolf Guy (where it was just him being smug in high school) to any point of Akumetsu, it just got tedious and tiring where every scenario was like "AH-HAH I AM RANDOMLY IN OBAMA'S TOP SECRET BATHROOM, YES INDEED I RECORDED THIS VIDEO OF YOU BEATING A SMALL ORPHAN!!!!!!! YOUR GUARDS CAN DO NOTHING!!!!!" and I'm not sure I was totally onboard with a lot of the political screeds. I like Destroy and Revolution in that sort of vein, though that's been dragging lately.
