Good thing we learned just to drop bombs on black people instead of assassinating them in their sleep.

I've been seeing that flag of those Patriots around, is it mirroring a German fascist movement on purpose? Is it referencing the Third Way or Third Position (claiming to be both against capitalism and communism, and basically wanting fascism instead)? See, this is the German organisation Der Dritte Weg (the third way), who are just Neo-Nazis who needed a new symbol because all their old ones are illegal in Germany: While I saw this with the Bundy militia people: But I can't imagine a big number of American white supremacist militia guys like that being national-Socialists? I'd imagine they're more like Libertarians probably (except when it comes to religion of course)? fake edit: After looking around for the pictures I found out it is the flag of the oathkeepers, and it's referencing the three percenters, whose name apparently comes from "the 3 percent of colonists said to have raised arms against the British."

They think they're libertarians, but they actually want fascism basically. Cosplayer in Germany. Oddly enough, they take a dim view of people who look like fascists there.

Yeah, bloodlust is definitely a rising factor in the US today. Calls for violence in Oregon are functionally no different than calls for wars abroad, under the absurd justification that it will right perceived wrongs. It's a symptom of something else I think. It's like the difference between someone getting into a car accident and saying to the other driver, "Hey man. Are you OK?" or getting violent, yelling obscenities, and thinking, "No! This motherfucker needs to be taught a lesson and I'm going to deliver it." I suspect (but can't really prove) that this is because the US has a negative identity: we define ourselves by what we are not. This fortifies the psyche against external enemies, but requires that new enemies be created all the time. We have plenty to die for, but little worth living for. The little positive identity we used to have was based on material accumulation, something increasingly impossible. I could list off a few stats like the fact that we have 46 million people (1 in 6.5) on Food Stamps, roughly double the amount in 2007. But the basic fact is that the financial situation is teetering on apocalyptic conditions for many people as individuals, and it's starting to work its way into the rest of the culture. The only meaning in life is found in death, or intense "righteous" conflict against the other.
