That's probably the best list this forum has produced, except for the lack of Working!!!.

Nice work Lucy, thanks! I think the top 3 were never really in doubt. A fantastic year for anime.

Davincie posted:shoutout to the other 2 tesagure fans Tesagure was a pretty great show, but I just couldn't see it unseating any of my top 5 in the end. None of my top 5 ended up in the top 10, but it was a fantastic year for anime on my end. Thanks for the incredibly hard work, Lucy.

snafu is really good, but the best girl definitely won't be the one he ends up with, and the crunchy subs are pretty bad

Animes that showed up on both the good and bad lists with more than one mention in each:
Rokka (7 good/11 bad) and Yurikuma (4/9) are hands-down the most controversial of the year, which makes perfect sense.

I was rooting for Shirobako over OPM and I'd put Yona over Snow White but that's a good list. Good job ADTRW and thank you Lucy and darkgray!

It's interesting how little the top 10 changed from unweighted to weighted. Only the top 2 switched.

This could indicate a lot of things depending on average ranking or the difference in how people who raked series versus people who didn't rank series felt. It definitely indicates a greater amount of hype and mainstream appeal on OPM's part, but I imagine that Shirobako was much more memorable in comparison (if this vote was done later, I'd imagine OPM might be ranked a little lower when weighted)

I'm too lazy to confirm my suspicions, but I'm pretty sure that One Punch Man and Jojo were closer to the middle of the pack at the start of the thread but got stronger and stronger as the nomies started posting. to normies, and In Training posted:Shouts out to all the shows with one vote. i voted for OPM as a non-normie, and i'm glad the true AOTY won at least in weighted votes

I'm remembering that Shirobako came out of nowhere, with no previous material to hype and not a lot of prestige attached to it, and went on to grab this huge audience of people who really love it. That's a good feel.

I was like minimally interested in Shirobako.

As I noted, I had only tried Glasslip from PA Works before, and had dropped that 2 episodes in, partially because the new guy to the group was a gigantic tool-dick. Hadn't heard much good about it after that. And then when I read Shirobako's premise I was heavily unimpressed by the "anime about making anime" angle, thinking it was cheap and lazy. I'm so glad I gave it a chance. I went ahead and started my rewatch last night and was amused at noticing the very out-of-focus Jiggly Jiggly Heaven still when Kinoshita was panicking at one point.

I remember reading the synopsis before it came out it seemed to be billing itself as a slice of life show about high school girls in an anime club, which is true of the first 5ish minutes of run time.

I feel bad for Yona. It was clearly hurt by excessive padding and at the end very little romance or plot movement despite a large amount of character development. Yona is IMO a stronger protagonist in a stronger setting with a better more well rounded love interest.
