It's primarily a PS4/Vita game and was a PS+ title, so the number of owners is probably in the hundreds of thousands, if not millions. The scoreboards went on forever last time I checked.

I think it's just an unfortunate matter of not having enough people who can really discuss it. It'd be nice if they got someone who was generally educated on games so they could at least discuss the mechanics and poo poo even if not the specific speedrunnin' strats but so it goes.

at least the runner is trying to provide commentary and explain what's going on. some don't do that.

From what the runner said this game is like all high-tempo with very little downtime so I imagine that also doesn't help

i think this does far more to hurt the game's reputation than help it, imo, plus it sucks for the runner when it's a situation that they're clearly very technically skilled but either in spite or because of it their commentary isn't very good

plus, and most importantly, it messes up the pacing of the marathon and naturally decreases donations due to depressed interest

i really doubt people in general are taking anything from the commentary other than "dude's not the best at live commentary and is super focused on the game so it's a little halting"

especially since finding someone who both is fantastic at live running commentary and doesn't get marathon nerves is fairly few and far between

Eh, I think that's a bit much. The game is fairly self-explanatory and is high-paced and energetic so it's easy to watch even with meh commentary. It's probably overlong but that's about it.

That said I'm looking forward to the 2x section because that should be fun to see speedrun

I think its more that a lot of the things you post in the UT thread is..verrrry unsavory. As in, "Why the gently caress would you post this creepy poo poo" tier of unsavory.

This game looks interesting, kind of reminds me of the space maze from that weird Space Ace SNES game, but not poorly done :v:

Just one more thing!
This game actually has a grade system of sorts and meeting a time target on each stage is one of the requirements for getting a high grade. For full marks you have to get all the survivors and crystals in a level + not die + reach a certain score threshold, etc.

Some of the target times are already really tough (but all designed to be achievable 100%ing the levels).

Most of the time if you memorize level routes and know mechanically how to optimize, it's pretty possible to play on a level close to this. This player has just the dedication to take that optimization even further, especially since he's running the whole game at once.

Like I said, it was a pretty high-profile PS+ title on Vita/PS4. Last I checked there were hundreds of thousands of people on the scoreboards. Obscure it ain't. How have none of you ever heard of it? Half of you probably own it!

So what's everyone's favorite GDQ run of all time? Mine is probably averagetrey's run of SMS at AGDQ 2015. I played the holy hell out of Sunshine back in the day and seeing someone get 120 shines in just 3 1/2 hours was amazing to watch.

I didn't see the whole thing, but I thought it was decent. I liked hearing them discuss strategy and teamwork together, and I thought they did a good job with commentary as well. They seemed to have good chemistry as a team and were pretty entertaining, overall.

I'm not sure it's a must watch, but it's probably more entertaining than this current game.

I made a commitment to myself that I will not do a proper run of the game again until I can somehow manage the (currently) TAS-only emerald skip in Toxic Caves. It's the only drat proper skip in the game and I refuse to complete a run that doesn't include it.

It's hilariously hard, has no setup for it, is pixel perfect, and is mostly blind depending on camera scrolling.

Needless to say, it's going to be a while.

It's a M rated game and this is a "family friendly" stream. I imagine they're thinking similar to cable in that the late night programming can be the more mature programming while the daytime is more kid friendly.

There's no way I can remember them all, but I vaguely recall one of Werster's pokemon runs because he came close to setting a good WR were it not for a single error in the run.
